Padres acquired OF Marcus Greene and a player to be named later from the Rangers in exchange for OF Will Venable.
A 16th-round pick in 2013, Greene is a career .250/.390/.397 hitter with 11 homers over his first 577 minor league plate appearances. He’s played both outfield and catcher.

Masyn Winn (knee) is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on Thursday, according to Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol.
Winn was shut down for the rest of the season back on September 13 with a torn meniscus in his right knee that he played through for the majority of the year. The 23-year-old shortstop wrapped up his second big-league season with a .253/.310/.363 triple-slash line with 72 runs scored, nine home runs, 51 RBI and nine stolen bases in 537 plate appearances over 129 games. He’s expected to be fully recovered in time for spring training.
Brewers' rotation takes hit with Woodruff's injury
Eric Samulski digs into the fallout from Brandon Woodruff's injury, exploring what it means for the Brewers' rotation going into the postseason and how it alters the veteran pitcher's 2026 outlook.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #56
Angels activated RHP Ryan Zeferjahn from the 15-day injured list.
Zeferjahn returns to Los Angeles’ relief mix prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Royals following a two-week absence with right knee tendinitis. The 27-year-old middle reliever has posted a pedestrian 4.77 ERA and 72/33 K/BB ratio across 54 2/3 innings over 59 appearances this season.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #57
Angels optioned LHP Sammy Peralta to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Peralta heads back to the minors with Ryan Zeferjahn coming back from the injured list for Tuesday’s series opener against the Royals. The 27-year-old southpaw was hit hard in four relief appearances for the Angels after being called up back on September 7.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #54
Mets sent RHP Wander Suero outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Suero figures to stick around with New York as emergency organizational depth. The 34-year-old righty made five appearances earlier this season for Atlanta. He was designated for assignment over the weekend after spending roughly 48 hours as part of the Mets’ bullpen mix.
  • MIL Catcher #24
William Contreras (wrist) is back in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Padres.
Contreras is back behind the plate and batting cleanup after sitting out Sunday’s series finale with a left wrist bruise. The 27-year-old slugging backstop deserves a ton of credit for playing through a laundry list of physical issues this season. He’s posted a strong .767 OPS with 17 homers, 76 RBI and six steals over 147 contests.
  • SD Right Fielder #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. is absent from the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Brewers.
The Padres, and fantasy managers, are certainly hoping Tatis is feeling better sooner than later with just a handful of days left in the regular season. San Diego is three games behind Los Angeles in the NL West, but are five games clear of Cincinnati and New York in the senior circuit’s final Wild Card playoff berth.
  • SD Shortstop #2
Padres manager Mike Shildt told reports Xander Bogaerts (foot) could be activated for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.
Bogaerts is on the precipice of returning to San Diego’s lineup after goint through an intensive pregame workout and taking on-field batting practice prior to Monday’s series opener at Petco Park. The 32-year-old veteran infielder has been out since late August with what was believed to be a season-ending fractured left foot. He’ll provide a massive lift for the Padres heading into the postseason.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #50
Braves signed RHP Charlie Morton to a one-year contract.
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker announced the move prior to Monday’s series opener against the Nationals. While it’s possible Morton pitches again during the final week, this transaction suggests the 41-year-old veteran hurler may be ready to retire after 18 big-league seasons. Morton spent five years with Atlanta from 2021-24, helping them capture the 2021 World Series. He was released over the weekend by the free-falling Tigers after posting a 7.09 ERA across nine starts.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #81
Braves optioned RHP Jhancarlos Lara to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Lara was called up last Friday and heads back to the minors without making his major-league debut. The 22-year-old righty has missed a ton of bats in the upper minors, but he’s also registered an astronomical walk rate too. He’s the definition of a work in progress.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #83
Braves designated RHP Carson Ragsdale for assignment.
Ragsdale has been removed from Atlanta’s 40-man roster to make room for veteran starter Charlie Morton. The 27-year-old former prospect was claimed off waivers from the Orioles last week.
