The move clears him from the 40-man roster. McNutt, 24, moved to the bullpen this season and posted a 4.60 ERA and 23/14 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings in Double-A. He missed part of the year due to a shoulder issue.

If he can stay healthy from there, the 24-year-old Mathews is likely to make his major league debut sometime this season. He struggled in three Triple-A starts before going down last month, but he finished 8-5 with a 2.76 ERA and a 202/.49 K/BB in 143 1/3 innings between four minor league stops last season.

Matzek has opted for free agency. The veteran reliever was DFA’d last week after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings for the Yankees.

Montero also pitched behind an opener last time through when he gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Red Sox. He has a 4.68 ERA in 25 innings over five appearances his season.

Puig is returning to the U.S., and he said on Twitter that, “The next step is the biggest so far. I can’t wait to share it with all of you.” The 34-year-old Puig was hitting .217/.292/.349 for the last-place Heroes in Korea. It was his second stint with the club, as he previously hit .277/.367/.474 with 21 homers in 126 games in 2022.

Gonzales is 0-for-7 so far as he works to return from an ankle fracture. He figures to remain in Triple-A for several more days before being activated, at which point the Pirates will probably DFA someone from the group of Nick Solak, Tommy Pham and (less likely) Adam Frazier.

Jiménez last played Friday. He’s hit just .270/.331/.369 with two homers in 157 plate appearances for Durham this season.

The Giants have already removed Jordan Hicks from the starting rotation and replaced him with Hayden Birdsong, but Birdsong has had some command concerns in the past. If the Giants were to have to move anybody else into the rotation, it might be Whisenhunt, who has a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 52:7 K:BB ratio in 51 innings this season. He’s the top pitching prospect in the Giants’ organization and is knocking on the door of the big leagues.

Taylor is having a great season in the minors, hitting .319 with eight home runs and eight steals in 36 games for Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners have been running out Miles Mastrobuoni and his .205/.272/.241 slash line in the minors, so they could opt to make a move soon.

Canzone is hitting .314 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI in 27 games for Triple-A Tacoma this season. The Mariners are continuing to play Leody Taveras in right field, but they could pivot to Canzone if Taveras doesn’t start to produce.

Ivey walked one and struck out eight on the day. The 29-year-old has a 4.35 ERA with a 38:20 K:BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. Ivey was a fourth-round pick back in 2017 and a former top prospect in the Astros organization, but he had a UCL injury in 2019 that popped up again in 2021 and led to season-ending surgery. The recovery process caused Ivey to question his dedication to baseball, and he retired in 2022 before coming back this season. With Hayden Wesneski out for the season, the Astros could turn to Ivey to take his spot in the rotation if Ryan Gusto continues to struggle.
