Rays minor league catcher David Wendt was suspended 50 games for testing positive for the stimulant Methylhexaneamine.
Wendt, 26, owns a .235/.284/.314 batting line over four seasons in the minors. He’s basically a non-prospect at this point and the suspension likely won’t help his standing in the organization.
  • FA Shortstop #31

Alan Trejo has elected free agency.
Trejo heads to the open market after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal from Colorado’s 40-man roster. The 28-year-old infielder went 7-for-40 with one RBI over a 13-game stint with the Rockies. He should be able to latch on somewhere on a minor league deal.
Cubs recall top prospect Shaw back to majors
Eric Samulski says Matt Shaw is worth picking up in all fantasy baseball league formats after the third baseman has been recalled to the Chicago Cubs from Triple-A Iowa.
  • ATH Left Fielder #22
Miguel Andujar was scratched from Monday’s lineup with right rib soreness.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters Andujar is probably available off the bench, if needed, but they’re going to give him a break from playing the field. It’ll be Gio Urshela taking over at the hot corner in his absence. He’s presumably day-to-day for now.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) is likely to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Kim is getting close to game action as he’s in the final stages of his lengthy rehabilitation process from offseason shoulder surgery. The widely-held expectation is that the 29-year-old middle infielder will be ready to make his season debut at some point around mid-June after spending a couple weeks ramping up in the minors.
  • COL 1st Baseman #11
Rockies sent INF Owen Miller outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Miller went 2-for-14 with an RBI and one steal during a nine-game stint with the Rockies before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster last Friday. The 28-year-old infielder will remain at Triple-A Albuquerque as emergency organizational depth.
  • ARI Shortstop #10
Jordan Lawlar is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Dodgers.
Lawlar has started only twice in seven games since returning to the majors last week. He’s gone hitless in eight at-bats during that span. The 22-year-old top prospect possesses sky-high potential, but he’s simply not playing enough to make any sort of fantasy impact. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but Lawlar is the type of talent worth rostering in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats based solely on his upside.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #45
Michael Kopech (shoulder) will make another minor league rehab appearance on Tuesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Kopech will need at least three more rehab outings before potentially returning to Los Angeles’ bullpen. The hard-throwing 29-year-old has been on the shelf since spring training working his way back from a shoulder impingement.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #77
Luke Jackson (hand) tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday against the Astros.
Jackson made his first relief appearance since being struck by a 111-mph line drive during last Monday’s outing against the Rockies. The 33-year-old veteran figures to continue serving as the Rangers’ primary closer after managing to avoid a trip to the injured list.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander is dealing with pectoral discomfort.
Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Monday they’re going to give Verlander a couple days to rest and recover before making a decision on Saturday’s start against the Nationals. The 42-year-old future Hall of Famer allowed two runs and walked five batters over four innings on Sunday in an abbreviated outing against the Athletics. There’s a chance he ends up having his next start pushed back or winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this week.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #53
Tigers recalled RHP Chase Lee from Triple-A Toledo.
Lee has yo-yoed between Detroit’s bullpen and Triple-A Toledo already on several occasions this season as he continues to serve as extra middle relief depth. The 26-year-old rookie holds a sharp 1.00 ERA across nine innings (eight appearances) at the highest level. He’s certainly pitched well enough to deserve a longer look.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #45
Tigers placed RHP Reese Olson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 18, with right ring finger inflammation.
It’s official. Olson heads to the injured list after making an early exit from Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays following six shutout innings with a right finger issue. The Tigers clearly don’t want to take any chances with his long-term health, so they’re going to give him a couple weeks off to put the issue to bed. The 25-year-old righty has pitched to a strong 2.96 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 51/19 K/BB ratio across 48 2/3 innings (nine starts). No word yet on how Detroit will fill his rotation spot, but it sounds like Casey Mize will be ready to return later this week.
