Rays signed RHP Matt Buschmann to a minor league contract.
Buschmann, 28, posted a 3.89 ERA in 22 starts (141 innings) at the Rays’ Double-A affiliate last season. He has yet to make his major league debut and will continue to serve as organizational depth.

Rafael Devers delivered a game-winning single in the 10th as the Red Sox edged the Orioles 6-5 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The Orioles could have walked Devers and faced Wilyer Abreu after Jarren Duran popped out to open the top of the 10th, but they opted to have lefty Gregory Soto pitch to him. Devers made them pay with a hard grounder that made it way to center field, scoring the automatic runner. It gave Devers his 25th RBI in his last 15 games. He also doubled and walked today.
Top prospect Clarke to be called up by Athletics
Following the Atheltics' announcement that they are calling up prized outfield Denzel Clarke, James Schiano discusses what the toolsy prospect with "blazing speed" will bring to the pro level.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #73
Hunter Dobbins yielded four runs in four-plus innings and struck out seven in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
Dobbins followed up a two-run first with three scoreless frames, but after the fifth began with a double and a single, he was lifted before he could face the top of the order for the third time. Both runners later came around to score off Sean Newcomb. Dobbins has given up 10 runs over 13 2/3 innings in his last three starts. He’ll probably stay in the rotation and face the Braves next weekend, but he could be replaced once Richard Fitts comes off the IL.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #31
Liam Hendricks tossed a perfect sixth inning with the score tied in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
Hendricks came up a little lame running to cover first base on the second out of the inning and got a visit from the trainer, but it proved to be a quick one, and he remained in to secure the final out of the inning. Hopefully, it proves to be nothing.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #24
Zach Eflin gave up five runs — four earned — over five innings in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Eflin allowed three homers, all of which were legit; the shortest was 386 feet. He’s now given up seven in his last two starts after allowing just two in his first four. With his groundball and strikeout rates dwindling, he no longer seems like an every-week play in mixed leagues. Still, he should be used at home against the White Sox next week.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #74
Félix Bautista worked a perfect ninth with the score 5-5 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
It was a little surprising to see Baltimore go to its closer in a tie game with the bottom third of the lineup due up, but the team was probably thinking that even with a potential lead in the 10th, it might have made more sense to have a lefty face the Alex Bregman-less top of the Red Sox lineup, which featured Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers and Wilyer Abreu. Bautista went on to retire the side in order, but the lefty-lefty matchups didn’t go the Orioles’ way in the 10th. Bautista now figures to be down for the nightcap, which might put Andrew Kittredge or Yannier Cano (who struck out two in a perfect eighth today) in line for a save.
  • BAL 1st Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle went 0-for-4 against the Red Sox in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Mountcastle has fared considerably better in his last 20 games (.265/.281/.369) than in his first 28 games (.191/.240/.270), but it’s still not the kind of production a team wants from a first baseman/designated hitter. He does have options remaining, and Samuel Bassallo seems ready to contribute if the Orioles are fine with him not catching often. Coby Mayo would also be an option, but he’s really struggled in Triple-A since being sent down earlier this month.
  • NYM Left Fielder #9
Brandon Nimmo (neck) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Dodgers.
The Mets will play shorthanded again Saturday, as Nimmo will be on the bench to open the game against the Dodgers with his neck issue, and Mark Vientos (abdomen) also out. Starling Marte will get the start in left field in Nimmo’s absence.
  • TOR Right Fielder #25
Anthony Santander (hip) is hitting sixth and playing right field against the Rays on Saturday.
Santander was able to appear as a pinch-hitter during Friday’s game before being removed for a pinch-runner after drawing a walk, but this will be his first start since dealing with hip inflammation that he experienced Wednesday.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #94
Guardians recalled RHP Nic Enright from Triple-A Columbus.
Enright will get a chance to make his first appearance of 2025 if the Guardians use him while he’s with the club. The 28-year-old takes the bullpen spot of Hunter Gaddis, as Gaddis was placed on the bereavement list as a corresponding transaction.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #33
Guardians placed RHP Hunter Gaddis on the bereavement list.
Gaddis will be away from the Guardians for up to three days while taking care of more pressing matters. He’ll return to a key bullpen role with the team, but Nick Enright will take his place on the roster for now.
