Blue Jays designated 1B Michael McDade for assignment.
McDade earned a spot on the 40-man roster last fall, but he gets the boot after batting .285/.360/.445 with 17 homers and an .806 OPS in 118 games this year between Double- and Triple-A. The 23-year-old could draw some interest on waivers.

Travis Bazzana, the first overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, is expected to miss 8-10 weeks with an oblique strain suffered last week.
The injury doesn’t necessarily rule out Bazzana reaching the majors this season, but it does mean it’s a whole lot less likely to happen. The 22-year-old Bazzana was hitting .252/.362/.433 with four homers and eight steals in 33 games for Double-A Akron.

Vaughn Dalzell breaks down the National League MVP market, explaining why Shohei Ohtani will be "unbettable" by July given his recent play and his odds continuing to increase
  • MIL Catcher #76
Jeferson Quero is expected back with Triple-A Nashville next week as he finishes up his rehab from a hamstring strain.
In his first action of 2025, Quero has gone 2-for-15, with both hits being homers, in six games in the Arizona Complex League. The 22-year-old catcher is coming off shoulder surgery that cost him virtually all of 2024.
  • BAL Left Fielder #17
Colton Cowser will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Aberdeen on Wednesday.
Cowser, on the 60-day IL with a fractured thumb, is eligible to return May 30 and, barring a setback, should be ready then. The Orioles might send down Heston Kjerstad to make room for him.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #58
The Mariners are planning on adding Casey Lawrence to the roster and using him as a bulk guy in Tuesday’s game.
Casey Legumina will serve as an opener against the White Sox before Lawrence takes over. With George Kirby on the way back, Lawrence could be DFA’d after the game.
  • CHC Catcher #25
The Cubs will return Moisés Ballesteros to Triple-A with Ian Happ coming off the IL.
The move is expected to become official before tonight’s game. Ballesteros is 3-for-16 with three RBI and two walks in five games since being promoted as Happ’s replacement.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #39
Phillies signed RHP Lucas Sims to a minor league contract.
Sims, 31, was let go by the Nationals after giving up 19 earned runs in 12 1/3 innings to open the season. He’ll need to pitch well in Triple-A for a spell before getting a shot with the Phillies.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #00
Carlos Rodriguez will be called up by the Brewers to make a start this weekend in Pittsburgh, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg.
Still no Jacob Misiorowski. Rodriguez could be up just to push everyone back a day or perhaps he’ll pitch in place of Quinn Priester, who gave up three runs behind an opener last night and would be due to pitch again Saturday. It’ll probably be just a brief stint in the majors for Rodriguez, as the Brewers have some rehabbing pitchers making their way back.
  • DET Center Fielder #22
Parker Meadows (arm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Meadows has been out since spring training with a nerve issue in his arm, so this will be his first game action in almost two months. He has been throwing and hitting as part of his ramp-up process, but he figures to need to full allotment of time on his rehab assignment to get his timing and rhythm back against live pitching. This is still really good news, but we should expect Meadows in the Tigers’ lineup sometime in early June. What that means for Javier Baez’s defensive positioning is anybody’s guess right now.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #37
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that the Phillies had contacted free agent RHP David Robertson prior to José Alvarado’s 80-game suspension.
Feinsand notes that “no serious talks took place,” and it’s possible that the Phillies had been concerned about Jordan Romano at the time they reached out to Robertson, but it’s worth noting that the discussion took place. While Robertson is a right-handed pitcher, he has been good versus lefties in his career, and the Mets even used him as a pseudo left-handed specialist when they didn’t have enough left-handed relievers in their bullpen. That means Robertson wouldn’t be the worst committee partner with Jordan Romano at the end of the Phillies’ bullpen. We’ll have to see if the two sides strike up any more talks.
  • NYM Left Fielder #22
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters following Monday’s loss to the Red Sox that he’ll speak to Juan Soto about his lack of hustle.
Soto was extremely slow getting out of the box on a sixth-inning line-drive that hit roughly two-thirds of the way up on Fenway Park’s iconic Green Monster in left field, which left him with just a single on the play. “We’ll talk to him about it,” Mendoza said afterwards. The 26-year-old generational talent is hitting .167 (4-for-24) over his last seven games and has gone without a home run in eight straight contests. It’s worth noting that he’s gone deep five times in 16 games overall since the start of May, but he’s going through a bit of a cold spell at the plate right now.
