The Royals have opted to end Lorenzo Cain’s rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas after he suffered a setback in his recovery from a left groin strain.
The new injury is currently being characterized as a strained left hip flexor, but we should know more after he is examined Thursday in Kansas City. The Royals originally hoped to have Cain back on Friday, but we’ll likely have to wait a couple more weeks. Jason Bourgeois and Mitch Maier will continue to benefit in the short-term.

Jonathan India is starting at third base and batting leadoff for the Royals on Monday against the Brewers.
India was hit in the jaw by a 98 mph fastball from Emmanuel Clase on Sunday night in a scary moment. However, India is right back in the lineup on Monday at third base, which means Maikel Garcia will shift to centerfield as he continues to occupy a super utility role.

Triston Casas is not in the lineup for the Red Sox on Monday.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora had said Casas would not sit against left-handed pitchers, but he’ll take a seat with Cade Povich on the mound. Of course, that could have more to do with Casas being 1-for-16 to start the season. He’ll take a rest with Romy Gonzalez starting at first base.
  • BAL Right Fielder #15
Orioles recalled OF Dylan Carlson from Triple-A Norfolk
Colton Cowser landed on the 10-day IL with a fractured thumb, which led to Carlson’s promotion. Carlson hit .321 with two home runs and nine RBI in 18 spring training games and is off to a strong start in Triple-A, but we would assume that Hesotn Kjerstad gets the first chance to take Cowser’s spot in the lineup with Carlson serving as the bench outfielder.
  • BAL Left Fielder #17
Orioles placed OF Colton Cowser on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left thumb.
The team has not set a firm timeline yet for his return, but this is typically at least a month-long injury, depending on whether surgery is required. The Orioles recalled Dylan Carlson from Triple-A, and while Carlson had a strong spring, fantasy managers should hope this opens up a starting job for Heston Kjerstad. Kjerstad should be claimed off waivers on the off-chance that he gets regular starts now against right-handed pitching.
  • BAL Third Baseman #16
Coby Mayo went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.
It was Mayo’s first home run of the season as the 23-year-old hopes to keep his momentum from the final weeks of spring training going. He had gone 7-for-19 in his last eight spring training games and appears to be the next man up if any of the Orioles’ infielders should get hurt. However, with Gunnar Henderson close to returning to Baltimore’s lineup, there is yet another obstacle in Mayo’s path and the Orioles have not seemed to feel any urgency to make playing time for Mayo over the last year.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #51
Michael Fulmer threw four scoreless innings for Triple-A Worcester, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking nobody.
This is noteworthy because the expectation had been that Fulmer would remain in the bullpen for the Red Sox, but that does not appear to be the plan. Perhaps because of injuries to Lucas Giolito, Brayan Bello, and Kutter Crawford, Boston is keeping Fulmer stretched out to either be a starter or a long reliever. The 32-year-old also displayed a new pitch mix on Sunday, relying heavily on his cutter and sweeper while topping out at 93.6 mph on his four-seam fastball.
  • BOS Shortstop #39
Red Sox SS prospect Marcelo Mayer went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a steal for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
Mayer is yet another top 20 overall prospect in the Red Sox system and hit .333/.455/.528 this spring. Boston seems to want to keep Mayer at shortstop and now has Kristian Campbell at second base, which likely means that an injury to Trevor Story is likely the only way for Mayer to earn regular playing time early in the 2025 season. Given Story’s injury history, that’s not an unlikely path, and Mayer would be an immediate add if that were to happen.
  • BOS Center Fielder #48
Red Sox OF prospect Roman Anthony went 2-for-3 with two walks, two home runs, three RBI, and four runs scored for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
In two games at Triple-A this season, Anthony has gone 2-for-6 with two home runs, four RBI, four walks, and one strikeout with a 1.933 OPS. Obviously, two games is a small sample size, but Anthony is the top prospect in baseball and appears ready for MLB at-bats. Unfortunately for him, Rafael Devers is locked into the DH role in Boston, which means the three outfield spots are taken up by a combination of Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Masataka Yoshida. The Red Sox will likely need an injury or a trade to open up playing time for Anthony, but the 20-year-old is worth a stash in most formats if you have a deep bench.
  • CWS Shortstop #85
Chase Meidroth went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Triple-A action on Sunday.
Meidroth has been leading off for Triple-A Charlotte and has gone 3-for-11 (.273) with a home run, a steal, and a 1.012 OPS in three games. While Meidroth didn’t put up great numbers in spring training, he showed strong plate discipline and could easily push Jacob Amaya for starts at shortstop if he has a strong few weeks in Triple-A.
  • BAL First Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle has had the two hardest-hit balls of his career in the last two games.
Mountcastle has started the season just 2-for-13, but he has a 115.7 mph batted ball and a 116.7 mph batted ball in that time, which are the two hardest hit balls of his career. His bat speed is also two mph faster than what he registered in 2024 and some of the fastest recorded bat speeds in baseball this season. With the Orioles also moving the left field fences in this season, Mountcastle could be in for a big year.
