Rays optioned 1B Juan Miranda to Triple-A Durham.
Miranda stood only an outside shot of landing a bench job after batted .213/.315/.402 in 65 games last season for the Diamondbacks. He’ll serve as depth this year.

Carlos Santana (leg) is in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Dodgers.
Santana is back at first base and batting fifth following a brief two-game absence due to left leg tightness. It doesn’t seem like a cause for concern moving forward. The 39-year-old veteran has six homers and 27 RBI across 49 games this season in his return to Cleveland.
Fantasy ripple effects from King's shoulder injury
With Padres' ace Michael King headed to the 15-day injured list, Eric Samulski assesses potential fill-in options for San Diego and fantasy managers alike.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #33
Guardians activated RHP Hunter Gaddis from the bereavement list.
Gaddis rejoins Cleveland’s bullpen for Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers after being away from the club for exactly three games. The 27-year-old righty has been stellar this season in a high-leverage role for the Guardians, recording a sparkling 0.86 ERA across 21 innings (23 appearances).
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #54
Guardians optioned LHP Joey Cantillo to Triple-A Columbus.
Cantillo heads back to the minors with reliever Hunter Gaddis back from the bereavement list ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Dodgers. The 25-year-old southpaw has posted a strong 3.81 ERA across 28 1/3 innings (21 appearances) this season. He wasn’t going to be available for a few days after tossing three innings during Monday’s series opener, but he’ll be back relatively soon.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #19
Athletics acquired LHP Sean Newcomb from the Red Sox for cash considerations.
Newcomb made 14 appearances for the Athletics from 2023-2024 before latching on with the Red Sox last offseason. The 31-year-old southpaw was jettisoned from Boston’s pitching staff after compiling a respectable 3.95 ERA across 41 innings (12 appearances, five starts) in a versatile swingman-type role. He’ll most likely operate in long relief for the Athletics.
  • ATH Center Fielder
Athletics selected the contract of OF Drew Avans from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Avans receives his first call up to the majors after hitting .328/.414/.444 with four homers and 16 steals in 48 games this season at the Triple-A level, with top prospect Nick Kurtz hitting the injured list with a hip flexor strain. The 28-year-old long-time minor leaguer signed with the Athletics in the offseason after spending the previous seven years in the Dodgers organization. He is unlikely to play enough to merit consideration for fantasy rosters outside of deep AL-only formats.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #16
Athletics placed 1B Nick Kurtz on the 10-day injured list with a left hip flexor strain.
No word yet on the severity, which will determine how much time Kurtz winds up missing. The 22-year-old top prospect tweaked his hip during Saturday’s extra-inning affair with the Phillies and is likely facing a multi-week absence. The timing is extremely unfortunate for fantasy managers since Kurtz was finally starting to heat up at the dish, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four homers and nine RBI over seven games prior to the injury. There should be a definitive return timetable at some point this week.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics designated LHP Matt Krook for assignment.
Krook loses his spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster with the club making a flurry of moves ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Astros. The 30-year-old lefty has made only three relief appearances this season in the majors. He figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the club as organizational depth.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #74
Athletics designated RHP Ryan Cusick for assignment.
The procedural move opens up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster. Cusick has yet to appear in the big leagues and boasts a lackluster 6.75 ERA across 14 2/3 innings (13 appearances) this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • KC 1st Baseman #14
Royals 1B/OF prospect Jac Caglianone is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with five home runs in six games since being promoted to Triple-A Omaha.
Caglianone launched a pair of homers, including a gargantuan 459-foot blast, on Sunday and is up to five round-trippers over his last four games. The 22-year-old slugging prospect, who was selected sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft following a standout collegiate career at Florida, would likely experience some turbulence during his first taste of the majors if the Royals were to promote him soon. However, he would represent an offensive upgrade at several spots in their current lineup. His time is coming and he’s one of the few prospects fantasy managers in re-draft formats should be stashing, even in relatively shallow mixed leagues.
  • TEX Left Fielder #32
Evan Carter (quad) took live batting practice on Monday at Globe Life Field.
Carter is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at some point this week as he progresses towards returning from a Grade 2 quad strain that sent him to the injured list back on May 18. There’s an opportunity for the former top prospect to play regularly once he’s healthy with Joc Pederson on the injured list with a fractured hand.
