    Rays non-tendered RHP Andy Sonnanstine.
Sonnanstine was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. The 28-year-old right-hander earned $912,500 in 2011 while posting an ugly 5.55 ERA and 12/12 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings at the major-league level. Some team may give him a chance to start again, but he’ll likely have to settle for a minor league deal this offseason.

Shohei Ohtani will throw a live bullpen session Monday in San Diego.
This was originally scheduled for the weekend, but because of the potential for inclement weather in St. Louis, the two-way star will instead face hitters before Monday’s game against the Padres. Ohtani remains without a timetable to return to the mound, but it’s getting closer, and that’s exciting.
Fantasy impact of Mets SS Lindor breaking his toe
James Schiano shares the latest news regarding star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who is day-to-day after breaking his toe, also explaining how the injury will affect Luisangel Acuña, Ronny Mauricio and fantasy managers.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Anthony Volpe is receiving treatment for swelling in his left elbow.
Volpe is absent from the lineup as expected, but Boone did say that they’re hopeful that the 24-year-old can return Sunday against the Red Sox. The Yankees won’t rush him back, but it does appear that the shortstop has avoided a significant injury. Consider Volpe day-to-day.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Reds .
Carroll gets back-to-back games off even with a right-hander on the mound for the Reds in Seth Martinez. The 24-year-old has been scuffling a bit lately, but it’s still surprising to see him out of the lineup on back-to-back days. Randal Grichuk is starting in Carroll’s absence.
  • ARI 1st Baseman #22
Josh Naylor (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Reds.
Naylor is at DH and batting cleanup after sitting out Friday’s game with shoulder soreness.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno (hand) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Reds.
It’ll be Jose Herrera handling the catching duties after Moreno suffered a right hand contusion during Friday’s suspended game against the Reds. He’s day-to-day for now after X-rays came back negative for any fractures.
  • ARI Catcher #68
Diamondbacks selected the contract of C Aramis Garcia from Triple-A Reno.
Garcia heads to the big leagues for Saturday’s regularly scheduled contest against the Reds with Gabriel Moreno dealing with a minor right hand injury.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #39
Diamondbacks transferred RHP Corbin Burnes to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move frees up a spot on Arizona’s 40-man roster for backup catcher Aramis Garcia. Burnes is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery and will likely be sidelined until the second half of the 2026 campaign. The 30-year-old ace was in the first season of a six-year, $210 million contract with the Diamondbacks.

Seiya Suzuki hit two of the Cubs’ five homers Saturday in a 6-1 defeat of the Tigers.
Here’s an odd one: the Cubs scored six runs today without ever taking an at-bat with a man in scoring position. Besides the homers from Suzuki, Michael Busch, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw, they had just three other players reach. One scored on Busch’s blast, and the other two were stranded at first. Suzuki’s homers were projected at 376 and 395 feet, and he also had a 108-mph lineout that went 350 feet. It’s his sixth career two-homer game. Three of those have come this year.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #50
Jameson Taillon limited the Tigers to one run and three hits over seven innings in a win Saturday.
Taillon struck out five and walked one. He’s done a great job producing soft contact all season and today was probably his best showing yet in that regard; he allowed just two hard-hit balls, neither of which exceeded 100 mph. He got 11 outs in the air, the farthest of which was hit 327 feet. The win makes him 6-3 with a 3.54 ERA. We still don’t love him as a full-time mixed-league option, but he’ll be a nice play against the Pirates next week.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Keider Montero gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings behind opener Tyler Holton in the loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
Montero gave up a two-run homer to Michael Busch in the fifth and then solo shots to Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw before being pulled in the seventh. Besides those, he allowed just one other hard-hit ball and two extremely soft singles (one was a popped up bunt). Still, three homers are tough to overcome. Montero figures to stick around for now and face the Reds next week, though he could again work behind an opener.
