Chris Parmelee went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday’s 10-inning victory over the Indians.
Parmelee is hitting a scorching .343/.421/.537 with 13 RBI through his first 18 major league games, though his numbers took a hit during an 0-for-8 performance in Saturday’s doubleheader. Parmelee was just a .266/.355/.436 hitter in 2,663 career minor league plate appearances, but he’s given himself a decent shot at a bench spot in 2012 with his strong finish. With Justin Morneau’s continued health concerns, Parmelee could make an impact in AL-only leagues under the right circumstances next year.

CJ Abrams is back at shortstop on Wednesday after sitting for two games with thigh tightness.
Paul DeJong slides back over to third base. James Wood is batting second behind Abrams in the leadoff spot, which is good to see. Wood, originally the Nationals’ No. 2 hitter, was dropped to fifth last weekend before hitting first and second with Abrams out the last two days.
  • DET Left Fielder #60
Akil Baddoo, who had surgery for a fractured hamate bone in late February, is beginning a rehab assignment with low-A Lakeland on Wednesday.
Baddoo, who was removed from Detroit’s 40-man roster in December, is currently on the Triple-A injured list. He could eventually return to the majors if the Tigers keep dealing with injuries, but it figures to be a while; he’s essentially starting spring training now.
  • DET Catcher #34
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said he thinks Jake Rogers will miss at least a month with his oblique strain.
Rogers was hurt while taking batting practice prior to Tuesday’s game. Dillon Dingler and Tomás Nido are set to fill in for him in the coming weeks.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #35
Cubs placed LHP Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis.
After three shaky starts to open the year, Steele shined Monday in shutting out the Rangers for seven innings. Still, that outing came with his lowest velocity of the year, and it seems his elbow was bothering him at least then, if not before. The Cubs could pull Colin Rea out of the pen as his replacement, at least until Javier Assad is ready. Jordan Wicks is another option, but he’s not off to a great start in Triple-A. Connor Noland and veteran Chris Flexen are other possibilities.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #39
Cubs recalled RHP Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa.
Roberts finished last year in the Cubs pen, winding up with a 3.71 ERA in 26 2/3 innings, but he was a surprisingly early cut this spring, getting sent down on March 7. He’s back in the majors now after throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings with an 8/0 K/BB for Iowa, though it might be a short stay.
  • NYM Catcher #13
An MRI on Luis Torrens’ bruised forearm came back negative, and he remains day-to-day.
Torrens remains available in an emergency, but he’s out of the Mets lineup for a fifth-straight game Wednesday. Hayden Senger will be catching Tylor Megill today.
  • MIL Shortstop #91
Brewers prospect Jesús Made has been sidelined at Low-A Carolina by a minor ankle injury.
He’s considered day-to-day. Everyone is very excited about the 18-year-old Made, who is making his U.S. debut after hitting .331/.458/.554 in the Dominican Summer League last year. Despite his lack of experience, Baseball America had him 17th on their Top 100 Prospects listing this year.
  • NYM Left Fielder #3
Jesse Winker is on the bench against a righty for a second-straight game against the Marlins on Wednesday.
There have yet to be any reports of an injury here. Starling Marte, who has reached base in nine of his 20 plate appearances this season (four times via a HBP) is getting the nod at DH for a second day in a row.
  • PIT Center Fielder #15
Oneil Cruz is getting his second day off of the year on Wednesday against the Cardinals.
It’s bizarre that both times Cruz has been rested, it’s been against a right-hander. The Pirates could have DH’d him instead of sitting him, but that spot will be taken by a limited Bryan Reynolds. With Jack Suwinski in center, Andrew McCutchen is making his third start of the year in right field today. That’s one more outfield start than he made all of last year.
  • STL Right Fielder #18
Jordan Walker is on the bench Wednesday after going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts the last two days.
Too many grounders, rather than too many strikeouts, has been Walker’s real problem, but he is hitting .263 with a .364 OBP to date. He’s been limited to just one extra-base hit, even though he’s hitting the ball plenty hard. With Walker resting, the Cardinals have Brendan Donovan in the outfield and Thomas Saggese at second base on Wednesday.
