Melky Cabrera will likely be shut down after collecting his 200th hit.
He’s just one base hit short. The Royals have already shut down fellow veterans Alex Gordon and Jeff Francoeur in order to play Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson, and Cabrera will clear the way for Mitch Maier. Cabrera is batting .306/.340/.472 with 18 homers and 20 steals in what has been one of the more surprising seasons in baseball this year.

Gunnar Henderson, on the IL with an intercostal strain, is expected to return when eligible on Thursday, manager Brandon Hyde said Monday.
Henderson, who played shortstop Friday and Saturday, homered Sunday as a DH in his third game for Triple-A Norfolk. He’s 4-for-12 on his rehab assignment.
  • PHI Catcher #10
J.T. Realmuto is back behind the plate for the Phillies in Monday’s game against the Rockies.
Realmuto left Saturday’s game and didn’t play Sunday because of a foot contusion.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Jordan Westburg is back at second base on Monday after sitting out against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Westburg was feeling banged up yesterday after playing the first three games of the season on turf in Toronto. He’s in the leadoff spot versus a left-hander today.
  • CWS Right Fielder #18
Mike Tauchman has reported to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a rehab assignment.
Tauchman missed the end of the spring with a hamstring injury, but the White Sox were optimistic it’d be a short IL stay. It’s possible he could be activated as soon as Friday. Nick Maton and Travis Jankowski would seem to be possibilities to be cut to make room.
  • PHI Shortstop #7
Trea Turner took grounders on the field Monday and hopes to play Wednesday against the Rockies.
Turner is sitting out a third straight game today with back spasms. Edmundo Sosa is filling in at shortstop.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #30
Braves selected the contract of RHP Jesse Chavez from Triple-A Gwinnett.
And thus begins Chavez’s sixth stint with the Braves. It’s like they chose not to re-sign him in the offseason just to add to the stat. Chavez had a 3.13 ERA in 63 1/3 innings for Atlanta last year. The 41-year-old failed to make the Rangers out of spring training, but he’s back in the majors less than a week into the season anyway. Héctor Neris was cut to make room.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #50
Braves designated RHP Héctor Neris for assignment.
Neris was given a one-run lead in the seventh on Opening Day and took a blown save and a loss by giving up three runs. His outing Sunday was also unsuccessful, though the Braves were losing that game anyway. Obviously, he’s kind of a big name to be giving up on so quickly. Still, he was below average last year, and his stuff isn’t quite there yet right now after he signed late. He might be better equipped to retire major league hitters a month from now.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #68
Twins selected the contract of RHP Darren McCaughan from Triple-A St. Paul.
It’ll be the Twins debut for McCaughan, who has a 6.43 ERA in six starts and 11 relief appearances with the Mariners, Marlins and Guardians. He’ll work in middle relief.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #68
Twins designated RHP Randy Dobnak for assignment.
The unfortunate reality of MLB is that picking your team up by throwing 5 1/3 innings in relief will more than likely get you sent down the next day. At least Dobnak has his guaranteed deal, so he doesn’t lose any money in the equation. He’ll clear waivers, and he should be back at some point.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #56
Brewers recalled RHP Grant Anderson from Triple-A Nashville.
Anderson is replacing Aaron Civale on the Milwaukee roster and should be available to cover multiple innings today if needed. The 27-year-old had a 6.35 ERA in 62 1/3 innings over 49 relief appearances for the Rangers the last two years.
