Angels recalled infielder Freddy Sandoval from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Sandoval, 27, was also a September call-up last year. He went 1-for-6 with a walk one year ago and the same kind of results should be expected this time around.

Nathan Lukes hit a two-run homer in a win Friday over the Mariners for the Blue Jays.
Reds, Greene 'avoid disaster' with groin strain
James Schiano explains how the Cincinnati Reds and pitcher Hunter Greene avoided disaster with his groin strain considering his history of arm injuries, and why fantasy managers should look to get him for cheap.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #47
Addison Barger drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 with a run scored in a 6-3 win over the Mariners on Friday.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #23
Jeff Hoffman picked up a save with a scoreless inning and three strikeouts against the Mariners on Friday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #58
Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings while being credited with a loss Friday to the Blue Jays.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #34
Kevin Gausman allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in a win Friday over the Mariners.
  • LAA Right Fielder #12
Jorge Soler was scratched from the Angels’ starting lineup on Friday night due to groin tightness.
The issue must not have been too serious though as Soler did appear in the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning where he drew a one-out walk against Yennier Cano. He’s considered day-to-day, but it wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest to see him return to the Angels’ starting lineup on Saturday.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #98
Randy Vásquez allowed six hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts across six innings in a 13-9 win over the Rockies on Friday.
Vásquez conquered Coors Field with a steady diet of cutters that forced plenty of weak contact against the Rockies’ lineup. Past that, he showed off his deep arsenal by mixing six pitches and in the end, got himself a rare quality start out in Colorado. He now has a surprisingly low 3.76 ERA on the season and has plenty of runway to keep pitching every fifth day in the Padres’ rotation. His next start is scheduled to come against the Angels.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #75
Robert Suarez got two outs on three pitches to earn the save on Friday against the Rockies.
In possibly the most unlikely save of the season so far, the Padres were up 12-1 after the top of the sixth inning before the Rockies came roaring back late and forced Suarez into the game. After two straight innings of Coors Field chaos, Suarez got a game-ending double play on the third pitch he threw. He’s been untouchable this season with a 0.51 ERA.
  • SD 1st Baseman #30
Gavin Sheets went 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI, and a run scored on Friday against the Rockies.
Sheets had hit a bit of a slump going 6-for-41 over his last 12 games after a hot start to the season. Well, there’s no better way to break out of a cold spell than spending a few games in Coors Field. Along with the two doubles, Sheets hit three balls harder than 104 mph with his hardest being 110.1 mph. While not particularly consistent, the Padres continue to start him against every right-handed pitcher they face.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #24
Ryan McMahon went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored on Friday against the Padres.
Down 12-1 after the top of the sixth inning, McMahon helped lead the Rockies on a valiant comeback effort with a home run and then two more hits late in the middle of rallies. He had three batted balls hit harder than 100 mph and seems to be pulling himself out of the doldrums with three multi-hit games in his last four starts.
