2005 fourth-round pick Gaby Sanchez suffered a broken toe and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Sanchez was playing for Jupiter of the Gulf Coast League when the injury occurred. He will need to get a bunch of at bats during winter ball since he missed a large portion of this season with a broken hand and now the toe.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #78
Angels recalled LHP Kenny Rosenberg from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Rosenberg has a 6.87 ERA in 18 1/3 innings for the Angels this season. He’s stretched out to start if the Angels need that from him — he has a fine 4.21 ERA in 21 starts in a tough environment at Salt Lake this season — but it looks like he’ll go into middle relief initially.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #36
Angels optioned RHP Caden Dana to Double-A Rocket City.
Kenny Rosenberg is taking his place. Dana gave up five homers and posted a 10.45 ERA in three starts after a callup that never should have happened in the first place. It’s not a disaster how things worked out, but now the Angels will be using a 40-man roster spot this winter on a 20-year-old who wouldn’t have been on there otherwise. Dana might be ready to help in the first half of next year, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be on the team out of spring training.
  • CWS Third Baseman #10
After holding the third baseman out of Monday’s lineup, White Sox manager Grady Sizemore said he doesn’t have a set plan for Yoán Moncada returning to the lineup.
Sizemore indicated that the priority was getting at-bats for Bryan Ramos and Miguel Vargas. It looks like Moncada will finish out his White Sox career as a bench guy.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #41
Jorge López, out since Sept. 2 with a groin strain, is likely to come off the injured list within the next few days.
López gave up six runs in two-thirds of an inning in his second rehab appearance for Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, but the Cubs are going to bring him back anyway. It’s unlikely that he’ll be in line for saves.
  • CLE Center Fielder #76
Guardians prospect George Valera suffered a ruptured patella tendon playing for Triple-A Columbus last week and will be sidelined for 6-9 months after surgery.
It was obvious something was very wrong after Valera slipped and had his leg go out from under him on the warning track while he was trying to get position to attempt a jumping catch last Tuesday. This is better than an ACL tear, but it probably will sideline him at the beginning of next season. Valera hit .248/.337/.452 in 90 games for Columbus before getting hurt. There might be some chance of him getting bumped from the Guardians’ 40-man roster this winter.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #31
After stepping away over the weekend, Tyler Glasnow will likely rejoin the Dodgers on the upcoming homestand, manager Dave Roberts said.
Some eyebrows were raised after Glasnow left the team following the news that he was likely out for the season with sprained elbow, but Roberts said it’s “an excused absence” and that the team knows where he is.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Mike Trout indicated that he’s open to moving to an outfield corner or even DH in an effort to remain healthy next season.
Trout has resumed hitting after his second knee surgery of the year, and he expects to have a rather normal offseason. The position change possibility is noteworthy from a player who has resisted such ideas in the past. Still, it’d be a shame to see him become a full-time DH. It might also be worrisome from a fantasy perspective; many players have struggled to adapt to DHing, and Trout has hit just .214/.388/.458 in 81 career games in that spot. Of course, it probably factors in there that a lot of that DHing has been a product of him being banged up at the time.
  • STL Catcher #40
Doctors determined Monday that Willson Contreras’s fractured finger needs two more weeks of healing before he can resume baseball activities.
Being that there’s two weeks left in the season, we can all do the math on this one. Contreras finishes the year at .262/.380/.468 in 84 games. It goes down as the highest OBP and OPS+ (136) of his career. Pedro Pages and Iván Herrera will finish out the year as the Cardinals’ catchers.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #99
The Phillies will start Taijuan Walker over Kolby Allard against the Mets on Thursday.
One encouraging outing was all it took. Walker had a great day in relief of Allard on Saturday, throwing three scoreless innings in what turned into a 6-4 win over the Mets. It’ll be his first start since he was dropped from the rotation with a 3-6 record and a 6.50 ERA at the end of August. He’s since allowed four earned runs and struck out two in eight innings as a reliever.
  • LAD Catcher #15
Dodgers placed C Austin Barnes on the injured list with a fractured left big toe.
Barnes has a whole new fracture in the same toe he fractured last month. The Dodgers are hopeful he’ll be able to return for the postseason, but Hunter Feduccia will likely finish out this month as Will Smith’s backup.
