Scott Downs will start Saturday against Minnesota in place of Adrian Rosario (back).
Rosario is having back problems, so Downs will make the spot start against the Twins.

Harrison Bader (finger) sat out Wednesday’s series finale against the Rays.
Bader has sat out three straight contests with right ring finger inflammation after breaking a bat over the weekend on a swing. The 30-year-old outfielder is presumably day-to-day heading into Friday’s series opener against the Mariners since precautionary imaging didn’t reveal any fractures or structural damage.
Vest emerging as Tigers closer going forward
Eric Samulski dives into the closer-by-committee situation with the Detroit Tigers, sharing why Will Vest is likely the "primary option" after picking up his seventh save of the season.
  • LAA Catcher #14
Logan O’Hoppe (head) is back in the lineup at DH for Wednesday’s game against the Yankees.
As expected, O’Hoppe is back in Los Angeles’ lineup after clearing concussion protocol. The 25-year-old backstop sat out Tuesday’s game out of an abundance of caution after being hit in the head by a backswing during the late stages of Monday’s series opener. He’s been on fire at the dish of late, going deep five times over his last 11 contests since May 17.
  • CWS Left Fielder #23
Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a homer, a triple and four RBI as the White Sox topped the Mets 9-4 on Wednesday.
The homer, hit 366 feet down the right field line, was his lone hard-hit ball. It’s his first four-RBI game of the season, and the triple was his first 2023. Benintendi has started at DH and hit cleanup in all six White Sox games since he came off the IL last week. He’s 6-for-22 during that span, but he’s driven in eight runs.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #64
Shane Smith walked five and surrendered three runs in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Mets.
Smith finally got some run support today, but he responded with his weakest outing to date. The five walks are a new high for him, and he gave up a homer for a third straight start after allowing just one in his first eight. It’s probably time for anyone who picked him up to move on. He’s due to face the Tigers next.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #46
Griffin Canning lasted only three innings and gave up five runs — four earned — in a loss to the White Sox.
Canning walked four again today. He did the same in 2 2/3 innings against the Dodgers last week before a rain delay ended his outing. He’d walked a total of three batters in 16 1/3 innings over his first three starts in May. It’d be a bad time for him to start to struggle, as the Mets have Paul Blackburn back from the IL and Frankie Montas starting a rehab assignment. Canning should stay in the rotation for now and face the Dodgers next week.
  • NYM Left Fielder #9
Brandon Nimmo had two hits, two walks and two runs scored Wednesday against the White Sox.
In spite of his OBP struggles this season, Nimmo was elevated to the second spot in the Mets lineup after the team decided to drop Juan Soto and Pete Alonso to third and fourth. It’s not necessarily a great thing for his fantasy value, since hitting fourth below those two guys was an excellent situation, too, but if it leads to some more patience at the plate from Nimmo, it might pay off for the Mets. He came into today with a .274 OBP.
  • NYM 3rd Baseman #27
Mark Vientos’s sixth homer of the season was a three-run shot off Shane Smith in Wednesday’s loss to the White Sox.
It’s Vientos’s first homer since May 11 and his first RBI since May 17. His average actually increased a bit during his power drought, but a few more strikeouts would be OK if they came with some more homers and doubles. He’s at .235/.305/.385 right now.
  • TOR Shortstop #11
Bo Bichette is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Rangers.
It’s a rare day off for Bichette, who has played pretty much every game this season in his walk year. The 27-year-old shortstop got off to a sizzling-hot start, but he’s faded recently, batting .246/.301/.405 with four homers, 12 RBI and two steals over his last 30 games. Hopefully the extra break enables him to get back on track. It’ll be Ernie Clement taking over at shortstop on Wednesday evening in his place.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #7
Jorge Polanco is back in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Nationals.
Seattle is finally facing a right-handed starter for the first time in three games, so Polanco is back in the lineup at DH and batting second. The extra time off can only help the 31-year-old veteran infielder from a physical standpoint.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #48
Rays signed RHP Kyle Gibson to a minor league contract.
The deal is official. Gibson heads to Tampa Bay’s system where their pitching development engine will take a look under the hood to see if he’s got anything left to offer. The 37-year-old righty was torched to an astronomical 16.78 ERA across 12 1/3 innings (four starts) earlier this season in his return to the Orioles. He’s merely emergency depth at this stage of his career.
