McCulloch went 12-4 during the University of Texas’ national title run last season, but was less dominant this year. He likely doesn’t have ace potential, but should quickly become a solid mid-rotation starter.

O’Hoppe pinch-hit Tuesday and popped out in the ninth. Travis d’Arnaud started in his place tonight after O’Hoppe was hit by a backswing Monday.

Merrill drew a pair of walks with a run scored before taking Valente Bellozo deep for a solo homer in the eighth. The home run breaks a 15-game home run drought as it was just the second since Merrill returned from the injured list on May 6. Still, the 22-year-old outfielder is slashing a strong .333/.375/.532 with five homers across 120 plate appearances.

Sánchez singled to start the game in to top of the first and scored Miami’s first run on a base hit by Kyle Stowers. He’d fly out to end the inning as the Marlins hit around the order in a six-run inning. Sánchez added two more hits in the game for a three-hit effort. The 27-year-old outfielder is hitting .248/.349/.360 with three homers, 14 RBI, and five steals across 146 plate appearances.

With Robert Suarez getting the night off after pitching in four of the last five games, Estrada got the game to pick up his first save of the season as he was summoned to end the game with a two-run lead. He worked around one hit, striking out two to secure the win for San Diego.

The Marlins jumped on Kolek early, putting up six runs on five hits and a walk in the first inning. Kolek incredibly settled in to pitch into the sixth without allowing another run and fell in line for the win, allowing just one more hit and a walk the rest of the way. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 4.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 24/10 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings into a start against the Giants in San Francisco on Monday.

Meyer gave up a solo homer to Fernando Tatis Jr. to lead off the bottom of the first inning. A walk, hit, and an error brought two more runs in to score for San Diego in the second. Two hits, a walk, and a sacrifice fly plated two more runs for the Padres in the third. Two errors in the fourth would knock Meyer from the game at 74 pitches. He did not record a strikeout. The 26-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.53 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 63/19 K/BB ratio across 59 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Rockies in Miami on Monday.

Reynolds was locked in against Corbin Burnes and the Diamdondbacks. He reached in the first and third innings on a pair of base hits and drew a walk in the sixth before scoring on a two-run homer by Henry Davis. Reynolds then doubled in the seventh and gave the Pirates the lead with a three-run homer off Jalen Beeks in the eighth. The 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .223/.292/.360 with seven homers and 30 RBI across 236 plate appearances.

Carroll led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off Mike Burrows to put the Diamondbacks on the board. He later reached on an error in the fourth and scored on a base hit by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .259/.329/.561 with 16 homers, 42 runs scored, 35 RBI, and nine steals across 252 plate appearances.

Bednar got the call to close out the game against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday with a three-run lead. He struck out two batters in a perfect inning to collect his sixth save of the season. Bednar has three of the team’s last four saves, with Dennis Santana working the eighth inning.
