Chris Young homered, doubled and walked Wednesday for Triple-A Tucson.
Young has four homers in seven games and is batting .286/.366/.546 in 119 at-bats since retuning from a broken wrist.

Daulton Varsho left Saturday’s game against the Athletics with left hamstring discomfort.
Varsho was clearly in pain while moving from second to third and was unable to continue. There’s a very good chance he’ll miss at least Sunday’s game, but his status going forward will largely be determined by the results of testing and potentially imaging.
Palencia 'asserts himself' as Cubs closer
Daniel Palencia has four saves in his last four appearances, and James Schiano examines how the 25-year-old flamethrower has officially asserted himself as the Chicago Cubs closer moving forward.

Seiya Suzuki broke a scoreless tie in the eighth with an RBI double down the right field line as the Cubs beat the Reds 2-0 on Saturday.
Except for maybe Fenway, Will Benson would have had zero issue catching Suzuki’s fly in any other ballpark. However, with no foul territory in Wrigley, he was unwilling to challenge the wall, and the ball dropped just fair, giving Suzuki a big hit on a fly with a .010 xBA. It was Suzuki’s 52nd RBI of the year, moving him into a tie with Rafael Devers for most in the majors.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #32
After taking over at the beginning of the second inning, Ben Brown fanned nine over six scoreless innings Saturday against the Reds.
Drew Pomeranz worked a scoreless first as an opener. Brown then took over and allowed one hit and one walk while pitching through the seventh. The Cubs never scored until the bottom of the eighth inning today, so Brown was uninvolved in the decision. It’s the third time this season that Brown has pitched six scoreless innings. Unfortunately, he’s given up 36 earned runs in 38 1/3 innings over his other nine outings. There’s ample talent here, but Brown is not a quality starting pitcher just yet, and he still might be best utilized in the pen. He’ll face the Tigers next time out and might again work behind an opener.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #48
Daniel Palencia retired the Reds in order in the ninth Saturday for his fifth save.
Since blowing his first save chance two weeks ago, Palencia is 5-for-5 with one hit and no walks allowed over five scoreless innings. If he keeps this up, he should keep closing after Porter Hodge returns.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #40
Nick Lodolo blanked the Cubs for six innings before leaving a scoreless game Saturday.
The wind was blowing in at Wrigley today, but Lodolo really didn’t need it while allowing just three hard-hit balls on the day. He struck out five and lowered his ERA to 3.10. Next up for him is a start Friday against the Diamondbacks.
  • CHC Shortstop #7
Dansby Swanson struck out three times before picking up an RBI single on a routine grounder Saturday against the Reds.
Credit the hustle — he beat out a grounder to short with Elly De La Cruz playing it rather nonchalantly — but Swanson’s bat has really cooled off after a great first three weeks of May. He’s 3-for-27 in his last seven games, and he’s struck out six times the last two days.
  • NYY 1st Baseman #22
Ben Rice is not in the lineup for Saturday’s tilt against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Even with a right-hander on the mound for the Dodgers in Landon Knack, Rice will get the night off. Aaron Judge is the designated hitter with the 26-year-old sitting, and Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger will make up the Yankees’ outfield from left-to-right.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #9
Matt McLain went 0-for-3 as the Reds’ No. 9 hitter Saturday against the Cubs.
Santiago Espinal has definitely left the door wide, wide open for McLain to reclaim the second spot in the order. Alas, McLain is hitting worse now than when he was dropped in the order two weeks ago. He’s 6-for-41 with no homers and a 13/0 K/BB in his last 12 games, dropping his OPS from .645 to .573.
  • TOR Center Fielder #5
Daulton Varsho left Saturday’s game against the Athletics with an apparent leg injury.
Varsho was seen grabbing left left leg while moving into third base. The 28-year-old will likely need to undergo imaging to determine the severity and specifics of the injury, but for now Myles Straw is in the game in Varsho’s absence.
  • MIL Left Fielder #5
Brewers manager Pat Murphy reportedly said he isn’t expecting either Garrett Michell (oblique) or Blake Perkins (shin) back until July.
The report when Mitchell went down on Apr. 25 was that his oblique strain was rather mild, but as the weeks have gone by without updates of any sort, it had become apparent that he wasn’t progressing as hoped. It’s unfortunate the Brewers are being so tightlipped here. As of a couple of days ago, MLB.com still had Mitchell’s return pegged as “late May/early June.” Perkins was originally expected back from his fracture weeks ago, but updates there have been scarce, too.
