Yankees designated RHP Colter Bean for assignment.
The Yankees didn’t have to remove Bean from the 40-man roster, but since they’ve never had much interest in using him, keeping him available in Triple-A wasn’t a high priority. Maybe someone will claim him, if not for immediate use then to stash him away in the minors. Bean gave up two runs in two innings during his three days with the Yankees.

Tigers reassigned INF Eddys Leonard, C Eliézer Alfonzo and RHPs Wilmer Flores and Wilkel Hernandez to minor league camp.
No real surprises here among the latest cuts for Detroit. Leonard is probably the closes to contributing at the highest level after batting .263/.326/.455 with 10 homers and seven steals across 282 plate appearances last year at Triple-A Toledo. Flores, no relation to the Giants first baseman, was limited to just 20 appearances last year in the minors due to injury, but was a highly-touted pitching prospect just two years ago.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #78
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Wednesday that Ben Casparius is likely to open the season in a multi-inning relief role.
Casparius struck out two over 1 1/3 scoreless frames on Wednesday in his latest Cactus League appearance against the Reds. The unheralded 26-year-old righty was a revelation last postseason during Los Angeles’ World Series title run, allowing one run over 6 1/3 frames in four playoff appearances. He figures to play a prominent role early on with Edgardo Henriquez (foot), Evan Phillips (shoulder) and Michael Kopech (forearm) likely to miss time at the outset of the regular season.
  • CWS Catcher #89
Kyle Teel hit a three-run homer off the bench as the White Sox bested the Brewers 8-2 on Wednesday.
Teel has made six appearances for the White Sox this spring, but he’s had only eight plate appearances to date, and he’s gone 1-for-5 with three walks. There’s seemingly no chance that he’ll make the team out of spring training, and he’ll probably wind up sharing time with Edgar Quero in the first half while the White Sox figure out who is the better bet to supplant Korey Lee.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #47
Facing his former team, Bryse Wilson allowed one run in three innings Wednesday in a start against the Brewers.
He gave up three hits, walked three and struck out three. Wilson, who had a 4.04 ERA in nine starts and 25 relief appearances for the Brewers last season, is likely to claim one of the two openings in the White Sox rotation. He’s 9-18 with a 5.37 ERA in his 52 career major league starts.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #51
Freddy Peralta fanned four in three scoreless innings against the White Sox on Wednesday.
Peralta bounced back nicely after a rough spring debut that saw him give up three runs. He allowed just two hits and walked none today.
  • MIL Shortstop #3
Joey Ortiz went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases against the White Sox on Wednesday.
Ortiz stole second in the second and then second and third after reaching on a force out in the fourth. It’s interesting to see Ortiz being so aggressive after he was 11-for-17 stealing bases as a rookie last year. He’d definitely be more interesting in fantasy leagues if he aimed for 20+ steals this year.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #66
Brady Basso has been shut down from throwing due to a left shoulder strain.
Basso made seven appearances (four starts) last year for the Athletics in his first taste of the majors. The 27-year-old southpaw’s absence represents a hit to the Athletic’s starting pitching depth, but he wasn’t expected to break camp in the big-league rotation.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher
Chase Burns struck out three in a scoreless inning on Wednesday against the Rangers.
Burns, who touched triple digits in his spring debut, was selected second overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and will make his professional debut this season, most likely at High-A Dayton. The 22-year-old phenom, who checked in as the 38th-ranked prospect (198th overall) in Rotoworld’s latest dynasty rankings update, figures to move quickly though Cincinnati’s system.
  • DET Center Fielder #70
Jahmai Jones had a grand slam, a double and a walk Wednesday as the Tigers trampled the Phillies 17-7.
The slam off Jesús Luzardo in the second was the first of three straight pitches to result in homers; Andy Ibáñez and Gleyber Torres followed with solo shots. Jones is now 5-for-18 with two homers and a steal as he bids for a roster spot this spring. It seemed very unlikely that he’d get one a couple of weeks ago, but Matt Vierling definitely opening on the IL and Parker Meadows perhaps joining him, things are looking up for him. The Tigers even had him in center today as they look at their alternatives to Meadows.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #45
Reese Olson tossed three scoreless innings and struck out four Wednesday against the Phillies.
Olson’s velocity wasn’t up quite as much today as it was his first time out, but he was still about one mph better than last year across the board. He got 10 missed swings on his 47 pitches and allowed just one hit and no walks.
