Daniel Palencia gives up homer to Reds in ninth

Cauley will give the Rangers depth at multiple positions over the final month. The 23-year-old hit .207/.281/.345 with one homer, one RBI, and a 15/5 K/BB ratio in 65 plate appearances with the Rangers earlier this season.

Williams was waived by the Nationals last week. The 34-year-old has a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings out of the bullpen since returning from elbow surgery last month.

The Red Sox needed a 40-man roster spot for Jedixson Paez to start on Tuesday, so Harris was let go. The 28-year-old was hitting .293/.405/.459 with eight home runs and five steals in 71 Triple-A games for the Red Sox and Athletics this season.

So this is why Rivera went on the restricted list on August 17th? The 23-year-old is going to be out for the remainder of the season, but this move allows the Red Sox to open up a 40-man roster spot for Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Rivera had two really nice games for the Red Sox this season and two poor ones. He posted a 2.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 71/30 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 minor league innings this season. It remains to be seen if the Red Sox will treat him as a starter or reliever this offseason.

This Red Sox team is very different from the one Kiner-Falefa left back in late June. In fact, Kiner-Falefa got hurt before the Red Sox’s torrid stretch that began in June. He figures to return to a utility role off the bench.

As was speculated yesterday, Paez will make his first MLB start for the Red Sox on Tuesday in Sonny Gray’s place. The 22-year-old has allowed just four runs on seven hits in 12 1/3 innings while posting an 18/2 K/BB ratio in three starts for Triple-A Worcester. He’s not a recommended play in fantasy leagues outside of deep AL-only format.

McMahon will be activated off the injured list as one of the Yankees’ two moves for roster expansion. McMahon is hitting .216/.282/.367 in 306 plate appearances this year with 10 homers this season. Jose Caballero has been making regular starts at third base (when George Lombard Jr. was healthy), so it remains to be seen how the Yankees will use McMahon.

Rincon is being called up to give the bullpen another arm with rosters expanding on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has a 4.04 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 88/31 K/BB ratio in 71 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. It will be his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game.

With Jimmy Crooks being sent down on Monday, Bernal will split time with Pedro Pages behind Ivan Herrera in St. Louis. The 22-year-old is the seventh-ranked prospect in the Cardinals organization and hit .278/.363/.468 with 16 home runs, 77 RBI, and nine steals in 101 games at Triple-A this season. He would be interesting in two-catcher formats if he got consistent playing time behind the plate with Herrera at DH, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.

Scott will provide some baserunning for the Cardinals with roster expansions occurring on Tuesday. The 25-year-old was hitting just .237/.320/.342 in 57 games at Triple-A, but he did have 23 steals.
