Sims’ concussion is “mild,” but he doesn’t have enough time to get cleared for Thursday’s game. Sims has come off the bench in St. Louis’ first four games, and tallied his first career sack in Sunday’s win. With two weeks to heal, he’ll likely be back for Week 6.

Sims missed last week’s game against the Cardinals after suffering the concussion two weeks ago. He is the top pass-rushing reserve behind Chris Long and Robert Quinn. Sims, a third-year pro, registered the first sack of his career against the Seahawks in Week 4.

Sims is likely concussed, which would end his afternoon. A 2010 sixth-round pick and rotational lineman, Sims notched his first career sack before going down.

A situational pass rusher, Sims’ afternoon is almost certainly through. Sims had five tackles and one sack through five games coming into this afternoon.

Sims started two games in 2012, and he’s appeared in 38 of a possible 48 games over his first three seasons. In 2012, Sims set career-highs with 20 tackles, three sacks, and one interception. If impending free agent DE William Hayes isn’t re-signed, Sims could see more snaps in 2013.

Sims, 27, recorded 20 tackles and three sacks off the bench in 2012, adding one interception and starting two games. He’s a long (6-foot-6, 265) and versatile pass rusher whom the Rams are high on as a rotational end. Sims was previously signed through only 2013 at a base salary cost of $1,201,021.

The move creates $3.25 million in cap space. A Ram his entire seven-year career, 17 of Sims’ 20 lifetime starts came the past two seasons. He made little impact. Sims is a situational pass rusher who has gotten to the quarterback just 12 times in 99 career games. He turns 31 later this month.

Sims was hurt on a late-fourt-quarter sack of Russell Wilson. He needed to be walked off the field. It had the looks of a potential season-ending injury.

The deal comes with $3.5 million guaranteed. Sims started nine games at right end last year after Robert Quinn bowed out with a season-ending back injury. He’s a solid depth signing for one of the league’s better pass-rushing units.

A product of West Texas A&M -- which also produced Rams 2009 sixth-round pick Keith Null -- Sims is a raw, 6'6/235-pound rotational pass rushing prospect with impressive length. He’ll be in the mix for a roster spot in August.
