Saints signed Wisconsin S Eric Burrell.
Burrell (5'10/170) was a three-year contributor to the Badgers defense. Though light on accolades, Burrell served as a sort of glue piece to the Wisconsin defense. Burrell was often tasked with rolling down to the strong side and handling tight ends, which may be surprising given his listed weight. Burrell played bigger than his frame, though, and did plenty to disrupt tight ends throughout their routes, as well as play with a mean streak in the run game. Burrell was not a particularly special playmaker (5 INTs, 11 PBUs), but was able to provide smart, baseline play to help the Wisconsin defense function as designed. Burrell is an immediate special teamer with the tools to be a strong safety in a one-high defense, assuming he can add a few pounds and land a spot on the final roster.
