The Bears are calling Earl Bennett’s Week 2 injury a bruised chest.
It sounds like a day-to-day situation. Bennett was in and out of the lineup Sunday, catching one pass for nine yards. He had only 11 yards in the opener.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Bears WR Earl Bennett (chest) was held out of practice again on Thursday.
The Chicago Sun-Times’ Sean Jensen hears Bennett could miss at least two more games with the injury. The good news is that the Bears aren’t considering injured reserve as an option. Dane Sanzenbacher will continue to fill in out of the slot.

Bears WR Earl Bennett (chest) has been ruled out for Week 4.
Rookie Dane Sanzenbacher will make another start at slot receiver after commanding seven targets and catching five, one for a touchdown, in Week 3 against the Packers. Sanzenbacher is worth a WR3 look in deeper leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Earl Bennett (chest) has been officially declared out for Week 5.
This will be Bennett’s third consecutive absence. The fourth-year slot receiver tallied just three catches for 20 yards before going down, and can be safely left on the wire in all formats.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo said Monday that WR Earl Bennett (chest) will likely be out a few more weeks.
He had just three catches for 20 yards before getting hurt, and can be left on the wire in all formats. Keep an eye on replacement Dane Sanzenbacher tonight, as a good performance could make him an option in deeper PPR formats.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo lamented the loss of Earl Bennett (chest) as a major blow to the passing game.
The fact that the Bears are praying for Bennett’s return is an indictment of their brutal receiving corps. It also suggests that the veteran will quickly get his slot job back from Dane Sanzenbacher once healthy. “I would have felt better if we would have been able to keep Earl in the mix,” Angelo said. “Earl established himself with Jay [Cutler].” Bennett isn’t expected back for a few more weeks.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Bears WR Earl Bennett (chest) returned to practice fully on Wednesday.
Bennett is likely to play this week, bringing to an end Dane Sanzenbacher’s stint as the Bears’ slot receiver. Neither is worth owning in fantasy leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
Brandon Marshall is ticketed for split end in Chicago, leaving Johnny Knox’s position up in the air.
A candidate to open the season on the PUP list following serious back surgery, Knox seems increasingly likely to play a minor role in the final year of his rookie contract. It’s not clear yet if Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, or an early-round rookie will start opposite Marshall at flanker.
  • FA Wide Receiver #11
Dane Sanzenbacher will slide into the fourth receiver role with Earl Bennett (chest) returning this week.
"(Sanzenbacher) does the same stuff Earl does so now he can help out at the ‘X’ receiver, too,” OC Mike Martz said. “He actually plays four positions for us. He’ll be all over the place. And he’s going to start for us in our four-wide receiver sets.” Sanzenbacher can be dropped in all redraft leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Earl Bennett was held without a catch in Chicago’s Week 14 loss to the Broncos.
Bennett was targeted only one time, and now has just two catches in three games since Caleb Hanie took over for an injured Jay Cutler at quarterback. Bennett should remain quarantined to the waiver wire in all redraft leagues.
