  • FA Tight End #89
Saints signed Iowa State TE Dylan Soehner.
Soehner (6'7/268) is a mountain of a man who earned more and more playing time as his days at Iowa State went on. After redshirting in 2016, Soehner began earning starts in 2018, ultimately moving into a serious role by 2019 and 2020. Soehner brings very little as a pass-catcher, however. He notched just 26 receptions for 312 yards and a single touchdown over those three seasons. Part of that is Soehner’s middling athletic ability (sub-40th percentile in all drills), but he also just does not use his natural height as well as expected, even in the red zone. Soehner butters his bread with destructive blocking. Not only does his size give him a daunting advantage, he finds ways to get proper leverage and outmuscle his opponents consistently. Soehner will be locked to TE2 duty, at best, in the NFL but could eventually have value in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
