Kevin Cone and Drew Davis are considered the favorites for the Falcons’ final wideout spot.
With Eric Weems now on the Bears, there’s room on the roster. Both Cone and Davis spent last season on the practice squad, with the former earning a promotion to the active roster in Week 17. Whoever makes the squad will focus primarily on special teams.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Falcons WR Drew Davis has “caught the eye” of the coaching staff.
Davis is battling for the Falcons’ No. 5 receiver job. He caught just one pass in Atlanta’s preseason opener, but impressed coach Mike Smith with his special teams play. "(When) we start talking about the (fifth receiver), special teams is going to probably carry more weight than receiving skills,” Smith admitted. The practice squad is a more likely destination for the Oregon product.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Falcons released WR Tim Toone with an injury settlement.
Toone was waived/injured on Thursday with an undisclosed injury. The team also released OL Phillipkeith Manley from the active roster. Manley signed with the Falcons this spring as an undrafted free agent out of Toledo. Wide receiver Drew Davis was added to the active roster.
  • TEN Wide Receiver #83
Harry Douglas (knee, ankle) was upgraded to “full” in Thursday’s practice.
Douglas worked with trainers on the side of Wednesday’s practice before participating in the walkthrough. Consider him questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Backup Drew Davis, who caught a touchdown pass last week, was also limited by a hamstring issue.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Falcons WR Drew Davis caught two passes for 30 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s Week 8 win over Philadelphia.
He secured both balls on Atlanta’s opening possession, filling in for injured Harry Douglas at slot receiver. “He’s a guy who has kept at it and at it,” Matt Ryan said of Davis, a UDFA out of Oregon. “He has been really focused on getting better, even when there wasn’t an immediate payoff. That’s hard in this business, but he was ready and we had a great design for him on that first drive.”
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Drew Davis is expected to enter camp as the Falcons’ No. 4 receiver.
An undrafted free agent out of Oregon last year, Davis has done well to carve out a role on the Falcons’ talented roster. His ability to contribute on special teams as well as back up Julio Jones, Roddy White and Harry Douglas makes him a strong bet to stick on the final 53 again.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
Darius Johnson (high-ankle sprain) remained out of Falcons practice Thursday.
Atlanta’s No. 3 receiver won’t be active for Monday’s game against the 49ers. Drew Davis should pick up Johnson’s targets. Small and not particularly speedy, Johnson isn’t a must-hold in Dynasty leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Falcons WR Drew Davis caught a 36-yard touchdown pass in Sunday’s Week 14 loss to Green Bay.
Davis’ lone reception went to the house on a crossing route following a tight-window throw from Matt Ryan. Davis is serving as Atlanta’s No. 4 receiver, behind Roddy White, Harry Douglas, and Darius Johnson.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Drew Davis caught three passes for 70 yards in Week 16 against the 49ers.
Davis was elevated to the No. 3 receiver this week with Darius Johnson (ankle) out and ended up reeling in all three of his targets. His biggest play was a 59-yard catch-and-run where he busted out a spin move to set up an eventual Steven Jackson two-yard touchdown. Davis will likely handle No. 3 duties again in the regular season finale against the Panthers next Sunday.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) said he’s going to play in Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.
White, who has been sidelined since Week 5, is finally back practicing. He was limited on Thursday. He reportedly has a “different bounce” in his step and appears very confident in his health. White will be a very risky fantasy play against the Seahawks’ Legion of Boom this week and Darrelle Revis in Week 11, but then the schedule gets soft (NO, BUF, GB, WAS). Ideally, owners will watch White sustain health and then unleash him in Week 12. If 100 percent, he’ll be a target monster with Julio Jones on injured reserve. Drew Davis is safe to drop across the board.
