Mathis

Mathis posted a 4.83 ERA over 17 starts at the Triple-A level in 2011 before finishing the year in Korea. He appeared in 13 games for the Rangers in 2010, holding a 6.04 ERA and 10/11 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old will function as organizational depth.

Mathis posted a 4.07 ERA over 19 appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket with the Red Sox this season. He’s decided to earn a bigger paycheck overseas.

Mathis hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2010 and spent 2012 in Japan’s Pacific League. The 29-year-old righty is doubtful to make an impact with the Marlins.

Mathis wasn’t exactly effective in his time with the Rangers, so they’ve decided to give someone else a try, namely, Pedro Strop. Mathis was 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in his nine appearances in 2010.

Pittsburgh’s front office has been kept busy today making minor moves to protect the club’s pitching staff after the bullpen was depleted in Saturday’s blowout loss against Arizona. Mathis posted a 4.84 ERA for the Rangers in stints between 2008-2010. He hasn’t reached the majors with a different organization. Mathis, who went 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA over 114 2/3 innings with Triple-A New Orleans this season, has been assigned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis. He’s around to provide organizational depth.

The deal does not include a spring training invite. Mathis, now 30, posted a 4.84 ERA in 45 appearances (six starts) with the Rangers between 2008-2010. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since.

Mathis had been released by the Rangers last week. The 30-year-old reliever will provide depth at Triple-A Durham.

Mathis returned to the Rangers’ organization with a minor league deal over the winter after spending the previous three years elsewhere, but his tenure didn’t last long this time. The 30-year-old will now look to catch on elsewhere.

Mathis, 31, spent last season at Triple-A with the Rays and Rangers. He hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2010.

The 26-year-old Mathis looked shaky starting for the injured Brandon McCarthy, yielding seven hits, including a home run to Adam Lind, while walking three and failing to strike out a batter. Depending on when Matt Harrison is ready to return, Mathis could be in for at least another start, but that doesn’t mean he should be on your fantasy radar.
