    Mathis posted a 4.83 ERA over 17 starts at the Triple-A level in 2011 before finishing the year in Korea. He appeared in 13 games for the Rangers in 2010, holding a 6.04 ERA and 10/11 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old will function as organizational depth.

Mathis posted a 4.84 ERA for the Rangers in stints between 2008-2010. He hasn’t reached the majors with a different organization. Mathis, who went 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA over 114 2/3 innings with Triple-A New Orleans this season, has been assigned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis. He’s around to provide organizational depth.
