    Cowboys released DT Dontari Poe.
Despite playing over half of the defensive snaps, Poe has made no impact in Dallas. The 30-year-old is running out of steam but will attempt to latch on elsewhere as a run defender. The Cowboys also took a $2 million cap hit to release CB Daryl Worley. They’ll save $4 million in 2021 for Poe.

The Cowboys have told DT Dontari Poe and CB Daryl Worley they’ll be released if they can’t be traded this week.
Poe hasn’t done much this season, posting seven tackles on a 53% snap rate. He hasn’t looked the same since tearing his quad late last year. Poe is signed through 2021, but Dallas can save $3.2 million from trading him. The Cowboys are also expected to move on from Worley after benching him in Week 7.

Cowboys activated NT Dontari Poe (quad) from the active/PUP list.
Poe tore his quad last Week 12. The Cowboys said 10 days ago there was “no timetable” for his return, but it turns out he wasn’t far off. 30-year-old Poe’s presence as an interior space eater has taken on much greater importance following Gerald McCoy’s season-ending quad injury.

  • FA Defensive Lineman #95
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said there’s no timetable for when NT Dontari Poe (quad, active/PUP) will be cleared to practice.
The Cowboys also plan to ease Tyrone Crawford (hip, active/PUP) back from season-ending surgery. Poe signed a two-year, $9 million contract in March after a rebound 2019 with the Panthers. The Cowboys are counting on him for heavy snaps.

Cowboys placed DL Tyrone Crawford (hip) on the active/PUP list.
Crawford had surgery on both of his hips this offseason and still needs time to get back to full health. With training camp practices not set to begin until mid-August, injured players have a few extra weeks to catch up to their non-injured teammates. Dontari Poe also joins Crawford on the active/PUP list.

Cowboys agreed to terms with DT Dontari Poe, formerly of the Panthers.
This deal has been in the works all week and is expected to get done. New coach Mike McCarthy wanted to get bigger on the interior defensive line this offseason, and the additions of a couple former Panthers in Poe and Gerald McCoy does just that. Poe is no longer the every-down interior force he was back in his Chiefs days, but he’s still a formidable presence at 6'3/346 headed into his age-30 season.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater reports the Cowboys “are closing in on a deal” with free agent DT Dontari Poe.
The former No. 11 overall pick of the 2012 draft has started 118 games for the Chiefs, Falcons and Panthers over the past eight seasons. Poe typically played a near every-down role prior to joining Carolina; it’s unclear if his role in previous seasons is more indicative of his current skill or the scheme. At the very least, Poe remains a proven option in the interior that can be relied on against the pass and run alike.

NFL Network’s Jane Slaters reports the Cowboys are “doing their homework” on DTs Ndamukong Suh, Dontari Poe, Damon Harrison and Mike Pennel.
The Cowboys already signed Gerald McCoy, but it sounds like they aren’t done addressing the interior of their defensive line just yet. None of these veteran DTs are likely to garner a long-term deal in Dallas, although a hefty one-year contract could certainly be in play. Suh and Poe are the team’s best bets for finding a three-down difference-making talent, as both Harrison and Pennel are better used as two-down players at this point in their respective careers.

Panthers won’t pick up DT Dontari Poe’s 2020 option.
As expected. The Panthers will save $9.8 million vs. the salary cap while inheriting $3.3 million in dead money. PFF graded Poe as their No. 37 overall interior defender in 2019. The eight-year veteran will be 30 years old in August.

The Panthers aren’t expected to pick up DT Dontari Poe’s option.
Poe is owed $9.8 million coming off an injury-shortened 2019. He was on pace for career highs and graded as one of PFF’s top defensive tackles before going down in Week 12. The Panthers are moving on but there should be a market for Poe, who doesn’t turn 30 until August. Poe missed just two games prior to last season.
