Jones

Jones is an undrafted free agent that spent training camp with the Colts and landed a spot on the Dolphins’ practice squad. Now he’s back in Indy as depth behind every-down tight end Dwayne Allen. It’s not good news for the status of Coby Fleener’s shoulder injury.

The Colts could get Olsen back late in the season if his knee heals up. They also waived TE Dominique Jones and now have two open roster spots. Olsen struggled as both a pass and run blocker in the first four games before suffering the knee injury in Week 5 against the Packers.

An undrafted free agent, Jones should be stashed back on the practice squad provided he clears waivers. Jones has caught one pass for eight yards in four games this season.

Jones appeared in four games as an undrafted free agent last season, starting one. With Dwayne Allen (foot) and Coby Fleener (knee) both ready for Week 1, Jones will be limited to special teams if he’s active for Week 1.

Jones’ illness is undisclosed. A second-year undrafted free agent, Jones was active for only two games.

With Anthony Fasano (concussion, knee) out for Week 14, Jones will be called on to help as a blocker. WR Chad Hall was waived to make room for Jones.

The three grabs were the seventh, eighth, and ninth of Jones’ career after he entered the league as an UDFA in 2012. The one-yard score was his first career end-zone trip. With Jordan Cameron (concussion, I.R.) and Dion Sims (concussion) out, Jones and MarQueis Gray have been the tight ends. Jones’ three catches and 42 yards both led the Dolphins on Sunday.

Miami does not believe Jones is worth the $1.797 million the lowest tender would cost, but it is possible they bring him back on a cheaper deal. Jones has 10 career catches for 103 yards and a touchdown since entering the league in 2012.

Jones, 26, will add depth with Tony Moeaki and Chris Gragg dealing with injuries. A third-year UDFA, Jones appeared in two games last season and was waived by Kansas City in March.

A 2012 undrafted free agent, Jones appeared in eight games between the Chiefs and Colts last season, catching two passes. James has 19 career appearances, 16 of which came with the Falcons in 2012.
