According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Doc Rivers has agreed to become the next head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Rivers has been a head coach in the NBA for 24 seasons, and he boasts a 1,097-763 record with four teams. Most recently, he was the head coach of the 76ers from 2020-21 to 2022-23, and the team went 154-82 in three seasons. Rivers will replace the recently-fired Adrian Griffin as coach of the No. 2 seed in the East. At 30-13, the Bucks sit 3.5 games back of the first-place Celtics.

According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the Suns’ head coaching search has been narrowed down to three candidates, including former 76ers coach Doc Rivers.
Rivers, former Lakers coach Frank Vogel, and current Suns lead assistant Kevin Young are reportedly the three finalists for the head coaching vacancy. While the latter has a positive rapport with Suns players, Rivers and Vogel are the ones with prior head coaching experience. Whether or not that will enter into the thinking of team governor Mat Ishbia and GM James Jones remains to be seen, but this is clearly a job where contending for a title immediately is the baseline expectation. Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez and Nick Nurse were also mentioned as possibilities earlier in the process. However, the former has reportedly fallen out of contention, while Nurse accepted the 76ers job earlier this week.

The Sixers have dismissed head coach Doc Rivers, according to Adrian Wojnarowksi of ESPN
Welp, add Doc Rivers to the growing list of coaches to get the axe this offseason. In his three seasons with Philadelphia, Rivers amassed a 154-82 record making the playoffs each year. However, the Sixers have lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in each of those three seasons. This year the Sixers blew a 3-2 series lead to Boston including an embarrassing blowout defeat in Game 7. Despite the uncertainty surrounding James Harden’s future, having the league MVP Joel Embiid makes the Sixers an attractive job opening still.

The Lakers are holding out hope that Doc Rivers becomes available to be their head coach, Kurt Helin of NBC Sports reported on Tuesday.
Considering that there are already three finalists for the job, it’s pretty strange that the Lakers would still be waiting around for Rivers. Though he has won an NBA championship, his teams have blown leads in multiple series in recent years. His experience could give him the edge over the other candidates, as the Lakers don’t have a large window to win a championship with LeBron James turning 38 in December. We’ll see what the Lakers ultimately decide, and if Rivers will be made available by the 76ers at all.

Daryl Morey told reporters during his exit interview on Friday that Doc Rivers will return as head coach of the 76ers for the 2022-2023 season.
Despite rumors of Doc being fired or heading to the Lakers, Morey assured reporters that Rivers would remain in Philly. However, the league is a business. Things change quickly, and it wouldn’t be shocking if Rivers wasn’t with the team next season. After all, Morey answered the question with Rivers sitting right next to him. It would’ve been strange if Morey said anything other than Doc is staying. We should learn more over the coming weeks.

The NBA has postponed Sunday’s 76ers-Pelicans matchup, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Sunday’s game between the Sixers and Thunder has been postponed.
The Sixers’ contact tracing left them short of the eight players necessary to play, which implies that more players will be added to the league’s health and safety protocols. They don’t play again until Wednesday vs. the visiting Celtics, but it remains to be seen whether that game will proceed as scheduled.

The Sixers and Nuggets will play on Saturday after the NBA deemed Philly has nine eligible players, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
This game’s status was up in the air after reports that Seth Curry had tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday night. A handful of players were initially said to have been in close proximity of Curry, who was on the bench during Thursday’s game (with a mask). But after investigating through contact-tracing and interviews, the NBA cleared a few of the 76ers players eligible for today’s game including: Joel Embiid, Danny Green and Paul Reed. Those are out today and likely for a few games as the quarantine are: Tobias Harris, Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle and Vincent Poirier.
