The Buffalo News’ Tyler Dunne named second-year WR Dezmin Lewis the Bills’ “minicamp MVP.”
This is our fourth blurb on Lewis this month, so he’s been one of the more hyped players of the spring. With Sammy Watkins (foot) on the shelf, Lewis worked across all three offensive groupings, seeing a ton of reps. Jobs behind Watkins and Robert Woods are up for grabs. Lewis appears to be leading the pack heading into the summer. Lewis (6'4/214) was a 2015 seventh-rounder.

ABC Buffalo reports Bills WR Dezmin Lewis has had a quiet training camp, and is unlikely to warrant a “significant role in the offense.”
Per reporter Joe Buscaglia, Lewis is still likely to make the 53-man roster, but has struggled all camp with making catches in contested areas. That’s a problem for a wideout going 6-foot-4, 214 pounds. Lewis is a Dynasty league stash you could cut loose in the early days of the regular season.

Bills waived/released WR Dezmin Lewis, TE Blake Annen, LB Kroy Biermann, WR Jarrett Boykin, CB Mario Butler, DT Brandon Deaderick, DE Lavar Edwards, RB Dan Herron, OT Marquis Lucas, OG Cyril Richardson, CB Sammy Seamster, DE Max Valles, C Fernandon Velasco, and DT Casey Walker.
In addition to the handful of cuts made earlier Friday, the Bills have now trimmed the roster to 53. Lewis drew a ton of buzz earlier this summer, but it never showed up when the lights came on. Marquise Goodwin, Greg Salas, and Walter Powell have made the team (for now) as backup receivers.

Bills sophomore WR Dezmin Lewis saw some first-team snaps at OTAs.
A seventh-round pick last year, Lewis struggled with drops in training camp and did not make the final roster. He has a better shot to earn a roster spot this year in a very underwhelming receiver corps. The 6-foot-4, 214-pound wideout could earn a role.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
WKBW Buffalo’s Joe Buscaglia named Bills second-year WR Dezmin Lewis “the biggest sleeper on the team.”
In a later tweet, Buscaglia indicated he saw Lewis as a candidate for the Bills’ third receiver role, for which he’ll compete with Greg Salas, Leonard Hankerson, and others. A 2015 seventh-round pick, Lewis stands 6-foot-4, 214 and ran a 4.58 forty coming out of Central Arkansas. X receiver Sammy Watkins and Z/slot man Robert Woods are locked in as Buffalo’s top-two wideouts.

Bills OC Greg Roman said sophomore WR Dez Lewis has made “huge year one to year two strides.”
“He is a guy in the weight room, meeting room, he is here first thing in the morning,” said Roman. “He’s one of those guys that we started to take notice of before we even got on the field. His play on the field has reflected that.” Lewis earned nothing but praise for his performance in the offseason program. If he can keep it up in training camp, he should run away with the No. 3 job.

Bills coach Rex Ryan mentioned second-year sixth rounder Dezmin Lewis when asked to name a receiver who has caught his eye this spring.
“For my money I think Dez Lewis, consistently, has done a great job,” Ryan said. “Here’s a guy, a young man that came in from a small college, but man, has he really taken off.” Ryan’s words come four days after ABC Buffalo’s Joe Buscaglia put Lewis forward as a sleeper for the team’s No. 3 receiver job. Lewis offers 4.58 wheels to go along with a 6-foot-4, 214-pound frame. Drops did him in last summer, but he’s getting the benefit of the doubt after Ryan believes he made major progress on the practice squad.

Bills coach Rex Ryan said he has not seen much improvement from WR Dezmin Lewis.
“At some point you have to come down with some plays,” Ryan said. Lewis looked to be the favorite for the No. 3 job during OTAs, but he struggled once the pads came on in camp. It sounds like Lewis is on the roster bubble.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
Bills promoted WR Dezmin Lewis from the practice squad.
DT Deandre Coleman was also called up. An annual shorts and t-shirts All-Pro, Lewis provides a body after Walter Powell (ankle) landed on injured reserve.
  • FA Wide Receiver #13
Bills waived WR Dezmin Lewis and OG Greg Pyke.
Lewis was a preseason standout last year and made a cameo last regular season. He posted a 4-22-1 line this preseason but could’t crack the final 53.
