Cajuste

A college tight end, Cajuste is trying to make the switch to receiver. It is concerning he was not able to crack the 49ers’ weak corps, but he should get a shot to develop on the practice squad.

Cajuste was a wide receiver at Stanford, but his limited speed (4.62) and big frame (6'4/234) have led some to project him as a tight end. While he could possibly succeed as a pass-catching tight end, Cajuste has the short-area athleticism and ball skills to excel as a “big slot” receiver. On a 49ers team desperate for pass catchers, it is not out of the question Cajuste carves out a role.

Cajuste is a noted journeyman who has been bouncing around the league the last three years. He became a household name on this season of Hard Knocks with the Browns. A spiritual wizard of sorts who loved his crystals and drew loud “Cajuuuuuste!” chants from the fans, Cajuste simply wasn’t cutting it on the field. He needs a lot of work as a blocker and is a relatively average athlete. Perhaps he’ll find a spot on a practice squad, maybe even in Cleveland.

Cajuste (6'4/234) was a three-year starter for the Cardinal, parlaying 90 career catches into 1,589 yards (17.7 YPR) and 14 touchdowns. Blessed with long arms (33") and huge hands (10 3/4"), Cajuste may have to transition from college wideout into a pass-catching tight end or H-back with 4.62 speed. Another option would be a “big slot” role. Cajuste is a plus athlete, finishing in the 88th percentile of SPARQ testing. There is a place for Cajuste in the pros; it just remains to be seen where he’ll fit.
