Packers hosted free agent WR Devin Smith.
A former second-round pick by the Jets in 2015, the Cowboys recently waived Smith ahead of Saturday’s final cuts. Although he only played 12% of Dallas’ offensive snaps last year, Smith did flash his coveted pedigree in spiking 3/74/1 in Week 2 and 5/113/1 on the season. The Packers have a clear need at his position behind Davante Adams.

Devin Smith caught 2-of-5 targets for 39 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 3 win over the Dolphins.
One of Smith’s missed connections was an end zone target. There were high DFS hopes for Smith as he filled in for Michael Gallup’s field-stretching role, but the Cowboys did not need to push the envelope against the expansion-level Dolphins. Smith will continue to offer intrigue for Week 4 vs. the Saints.

Coach Jason Garrett told reporters Monday that WR Devin Smith “obviously will play more.”
Starting WR Michael Gallup (knee) is expected to miss two-to-four weeks. Smith burst onto the scene in Week 2, catching all three of his targets for 74 yards and one score in the Cowboys’ win over the Redskins. The former 2015 second-round pick offers tantalizing field-stretching ability, but has struggled to stay healthy throughout his NFL career. Smith offers boom-or-bust upside in the Cowboys’ suddenly-explosive offense against the Dolphins’ pitiful defense in Week 3.

Devin Smith caught all three of his targets for 74 yards and one score in the Cowboys’ Week 2 win over the Redskins.
Smith was merely active because Tavon Austin (concussion) wasn’t available. Even so, that resulted in the former Buckeyes burner escaping downfield for a 51-yard touchdown strike from Dak Prescott. It was Smith’s first touchdown since 2015 and only the second of his career. It’s doubtful he becomes a weekly presence for Dallas, but it would be fun if he did.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Cowboys signed WR Devin Smith to a reserve/futures contract.
Smith spent last year out of the league and hasn’t played a game since tearing his ACL in 2017. A second-round pick in 2015, the former Jet faces an uphill battle to crack the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.

Devin Smith (knee) is expected to open the season on reserve/PUP.
Smith is seven months into his ACL rehab. He’s doubtful for Week 1, and the Jets can free roster space from stashing him. Smith’s injury should lock Quincy Enunwa into three-wide sets.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini called WR Devin Smith (ACL) “doubtful” for Week 1.
Smith will begin camp on the PUP list after tearing his ACL in December, and it is certainly possible he sticks on the list into the regular season. After struggling mightily as a rookie, this injury will likely prevent Smith from contributing much if at all as a sophomore. The Jets have serious questions at receiver behind starters Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Jets sophomore WR Devin Smith (ACL) does not have a timetable for his return.
Smith tore his ACL in December. He has progressed to running in a straight line, but it sounds like he is still early in his rehab. “I know it’s not going to be easy,” Smith said. “It’s going to take some work to get back to [where I was], but the direction I’m going in I feel real confident in coming back.” It is possible Smith opens the season on the reserve/PUP list.

Jets placed WR Devin Smith (knee) on the active/PUP list.
Smith was never expected for training camp. He’s at risk of opening the season on reserve/PUP.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Jets sophomore WR Devin Smith (ACL, active/PUP) said he is “not ready to play football.”
Smith is just eight months removed from ACL surgery. “I need to get my strength back,” Smith said. “It’s a long process and very frustrating.” Smith does not appear to be anywhere close to getting back on the practice field. It is likely he opens the season on the reserve/PUP, costing him at least the first six games.
