It’s a pretty impressive feat for a defensive lineman who weighs between 275 and 282 pounds. Dobbs, an undrafted rookie out of Georgia, had two sacks in the preseason before playing a limited defensive role behind Justin Smith, Ray McDonald, and Ricky Jean-Francois during the regular season. Dobbs’ athleticism could lead him toward a bigger role in 2012.

Dobbs saw limited snaps after making the 49ers as an undrafted free agent last season, but was used on kickoff coverage in the playoffs. He boasts impressive athleticism for his 6-foot-6, 275-pound frame, and could be used as an extra blocker on offense.

A core special teamer and reserve lineman, Dobbs was arrested following a single-car accident at approximately 3:45 AM. He is facing misdemeanor charges. He will not travel with the 49ers to St. Louis. Dobbs has appeared in all 11 games this season after appearing in 12 as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

Dobbs suffered a partial tear of his MCL and PCL, but will not need surgery. A two-way player, Dobbs has been the team’s third tight end and a rotational defensive lineman while also handling special teams duties. He’s been a key reserve for the contending 49ers.

Dobbs’ agent says his client will probably be ready for training camp. Per the 49ers coaching staff’s “points” system, Dobbs was San Francisco’s top-rated special teamer in 2012. Dobbs is used sparingly on the defensive line.

Dobbs, 26, will compete for a backup role behind Justin Smith for the third straight season. He appeared in 15 games last year, finishing with 14 tackles.

Dobbs appeared in 15 games as a reserve defensive lineman, finishing with 14 tackles. He’s now owed $1.431 million in 2014. Wilhoite is owed $570,000. He has an outside chance to open 2014 as a starting inside linebacker with Navorro Bowman recovering from a gruesome late-season knee injury.

Dobbs logged two tackles before leaving. He should be back in the game shortly. Dobbs backs up Michael Bennett at left defensive end.

Dobbs appeared in six games (including playoffs) with Seattle after being claimed off waivers in November. He played his way into 133 snaps as part of the defensive line rotation and should return to compete for a depth role. The Seahawks are also in talks with DT Kevin Williams about a possible return.

Dobbs entered the day having played just 81 snaps this year, so the Seahawks should be okay without him. He didn’t record any tackles on Sunday.
