Steelers signed QB Dwayne Haskins, DB Stephen Denmark, TE Charles Jones, and TE Dax Raymond to reserve/future contracts.
Haskins joins the Steelers after his two-year run in Washington ended with the team releasing him following a blatant violation of COVID-19 protocols. Pittsburgh also adds Jones and Raymond to a relatively shallow tight end depth chart. Raymond -- who had a 73rd percentile speed score at the 2019 NFL combine -- was one of Jordan Love’s primary targets at Utah State. He was signed by Chicago as an undrafted free agent in 2019 before being released by the Bears after the 2019 season.

  • FA Tight End #49
    Steelers signed TE Dax Raymond.
This means the Steelers have five tight ends for training camp, giving Raymond a better chance of making the roster than his previous stop, the Bears, who still have nine tight ends under contract. Raymond does not have an NFL catch to his name after going undrafted out of Utah State.

  • FA Tight End #49
    Bears waived TE Dax Raymond.
The move leaves the Bears with “just” nine TEs on their roster. Raymond never played a regular season snap for the Bears in 2019.

  • FA Tight End #49
Bears signed Utah State TE Dax Raymond.
Raymond (6’5/255) turned pro as a redshirt junior after making 22 starts for the Aggies, earning honorable mention All-Mountain West in each of his final two seasons and leaving school with a career 72/873/3 (12.1 YPC) receiving line. Raymond tested as just a 21st-percentile athlete at the Combine, running 4.73 with a 32-inch vertical. Raymond’s tape reveals a possession pass catcher who struggles to secure the ball above his head and was largely a non-factor as both a run and pass blocker. He’s a long shot to become more than a No. 2 tight end.
