Panthers WR David Gettis is “right on schedule” in his return from ACL surgery.
“It’s great to see David Gettis moving around,” coach Ron Rivera said. “His rehab has gone very well so I’m excited about seeing him and what he can become for us.” With Brandon LaFell taking hold of the No. 2 receiver job, Gettis will battle for a role in three- and four-wide sets.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Panthers insider Darin Gantt suggested on Twitter that Brandon LaFell is the heavy favorite for the team’s No. 2 receiver job.
“I didn’t realize it was that much of a question,” wrote Gantt. There has been speculation that David Gettis would be in the mix, but he’s a poor bet coming off ACL surgery and has no playing experience in second-year OC Rob Chudzinski’s system. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in April that many inside the Panthers’ organization believe LaFell is “poised for a breakout” in 2012.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
Panthers WR David Gettis (ACL surgery) plans to participate in OTAs this spring.
Gettis recently began running and insists “everything’s going according to schedule.” Barring a setback, the 2010 starter should be ready to compete with Brandon LaFell for the second receiver job opposite Steve Smith.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Brandon LaFell has been the first-team receiver opposite Steve Smith in team drills early in training camp.
Coach Ron Rivera expects David Gettis (ACL surgery) to challenge for playing time, and Seyi Ajirotutu has stood out in the first week. LaFell is the heavy favorite to keep the job, however, leaving Gettis, Ajirotutu and Louis Murphy to vie for snaps in the No. 3 role.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
David Gettis (hamstring) hasn’t been cleared to return to practice yet, but is running full speed.
Gettis, who is also coming off an August 2011 ACL tear, has missed more than a week of training camp now. He has to prove his health before we can take him seriously as a contender for the No. 3 wideout job.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring) said he should be ready to play in “a couple days.”
Gettis, who was already rehabbing from a torn ACL, picked up a mild hamstring strain. He’s in the mix for the No. 3 wideout gig, but needs to sustain some health. Newly signed Louis Murphy is ready to pick up leftover reps.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
Coach Ron Rivera says the Panthers are viewing David Gettis (ACL surgery) as a potential third receiver this season.
It’s a concession that Brandon LaFell is locked in as No. 2. Gettis says he’s “close” to 100 percent after last August’s left ACL tear, though he’ll wear a brace on the knee all year. Ideally, Gettis and Steve Smith would work the perimeter on passing downs, with LaFell as an imposing target in the slot.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
David Gettis is beginning training camp on the active/PUP list due to a hamstring injury.
Gettis is coming off a torn ACL, but GM Marty Hurney says the two injuries are not related. He’s expected to come off active/PUP list shortly after camp begins this weekend. We actually like the news that he has a hamstring injury, and didn’t suffer a setback with the surgically reconstructed knee. Gettis is in the mix for No. 3 wideout duties behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
The Panthers are “optimistic” WR David Gettis (hamstring) will return to practice before the end of the week.
Gettis has yet to practice in camp after missing all of 2011 with a torn left ACL. Competing with Louis Murphy and Seyi Ajirotutu for No. 3 receiver duties, Gettis needs to make some preseason noise if he’s going to win that battle.
  • FA Wide Receiver #6
Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring) remains sidelined.
Gettis remains on the camp/PUP list, and the Charlotte Observer believes it’s cost him any shot at the Panthers’ No. 3 job, or even a part of a No. 3 committee. Seyi Ajirotutu, Kealoha Pilares, and Louis Murphy could all rotate snaps behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Gettis is off the radar in fantasy leagues.
