Steelers promoted S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith from the practice squad.
A second year undrafted free agent out of UTEP, Cromartie-Smith has never before appeared in an NFL game. He’ll be a special teamer for what will likely be a short stint on the Steelers’ active roster.

Steelers promoted S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith from the practice squad.
It looks like coach Mike Tomlin is making good on his threat to sit “egregious” offenders on special teams. Look for Cromartie-Smith to see plenty of action there. OG John Malecki was also released, and is expected to be re-signed back to the practice squad next week.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
    Redskins signed S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith.
Cromartie-Smith appeared in four games with Pittsburgh last year before being placed on I.R and will compete for a roster spot on special teams. Peyton Thompson was waived in a corresponding move.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
Steelers placed S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith on injured reserve, ending his season.
The special teamer was waived/injured earlier in the week. The Steelers replaced Cromartie-Smith on the 53-man roster with ex-Cowboys S Will Allen.

Cromartie-Smith had the name, but OTAs proved he didn’t have the game.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
    Steelers signed S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith to a reserve/future contract.
Cromartie-Smith went undrafted last April out of UTEP, where he was a three-year starter at strong safety. He’ll try to hang around on special teams.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
    Steelers re-signed S Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith and waived/injured S Tuff Harris.
Harris had a shoulder injury, the extent of which is unknown. Cromartie-Smith offers an intriguing size-speed combo, but it’s not a good sign that he went unsigned after the Steelers waived him in June. He won’t make the club.
  • FA Running Back #11
Steelers waived KR Stefan Logan, LB Patrick Bailey, DB Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, WR Tyler Grisham, DL Steve McLendon, and DL RaShon “Sunny” Harris.
Logan tallied nearly 1,750 return yards last season, but he was hurt by his inability to contribute on offense. Sixth-rounder Antonio Brown is the favorite to take over on punts and kickoffs this season.
