Commanders downgraded S Tyler Owens (shin) to doubtful for Week 5 against the Browns.
With Owens doubtful, this could be the week Darrick Forrest makes his season debut. Forrest played in only five games in 2023 due to a shoulder injury and has been inactive for the first four weeks of this season.
  • WAS Safety
Commanders signed Texas Tech S Tyler Owens.
Owens (6’2/216) brings plenty of size to the safety position and possesses good speed and athleticism – although he didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the combine or his pro day. Owens has the look of an NFL safety but is short on playing experience. Per Pro Football Focus, Owens has logged just 961 snaps on defense during his five college seasons and missed a high rate of tackles (17.6 percent) during his final season at Texas Tech. He has plenty to work with as far as tools are concerned, but he’ll need to be coached up and make the most of valuable reps in camp if he hopes to secure a spot on a 53-man roster.
  • WAS Safety #40
Texas received a verbal commitment from four-star S Tyler Owens.
Owens had a reported final three of Baylor, UCLA and Texas; but it’s the Longhorns who would get the signature if signing day was Monday. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound safety is considered one of the better run-supporting defensive backs in the class, but he’s athletic enough to make plays in coverage as well. He currently ranks 26th among safeties on 247 Sports list, and 38th among players in the state of Texas.
