Roughly 48 hours after entering the transfer portal, former Alabama defensive back DeVonta Smith has decided to head to Notre Dame for his final year of eligibility.

Smith was an intricate piece of the Crimson Tide’s secondary this season, posting 30 tackles and a forced fumble. His five pass breakups were good enough to rank third on the team this season.

Smith’s experience alone should upgrade the Fighting Irish’s secondary, coming from a crew that amassed 16 interceptions this season. That’s right in line with the 17 passes the Fighting Irish picked off this season.

The 6-foot, 205-pounder originally signed with Alabama as a four-star prospect in the Rivals 100.
