Minnesota will add a talented new wide receiver to its 2025 roster, as Nebraska transfer wideout Malachi Coleman announced his commitment to the Golden Gophers today.

Coleman entered the portal on Dec. 9 after playing under head coach Matt Rhule in Lincoln for two seasons in 2023 and 2024.

He will now play head coach P.J. Fleck, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Greg Harbaugh Jr., co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Matt Simon and the rest of the Minnesota staff.

As a true freshman in 2023, Coleman played in 11 games, including six starts, for the Cornhuskers. He recorded eight catches for 139 yards (17.4 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. His longest reception went for 44 yards.

However, Coleman’s playing time dwindled in 2024 and he took a redshirt. Coleman appeared in just one game this season and did not record any statistics. According to Pro Football Focus, Coleman did not receive a single offensive snap, but did play three snaps on special teams against Rutgers on Oct. 5.

The now 6-foot-5, 210-pound Coleman was a four-star prospect out of Lincoln East High School in Nebraska in the class of 2023. He ranked as the 60th overall prospect in the cycle, and also ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska and No. 11 wide receiver.

Coleman had close to 30 scholarship offers coming out of high school. He originally committed to Nebraska in October of 2022 under then interim head coach Mickey Joseph, but he decommitted on Dec. 1, one day after Joseph was arrested by the Lincoln Police Department for a domestic disturbance and placed on administrative leave. However, Coleman reaffirmed with the Cornhuskers under Rhule and signed with Nebraska on Dec. 21, 2022.
