WVU loses a top defender for the Orange Bowl

West Virginia defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel already had his work cut out for him trying to slow down Clemson’s offense in the Orange Bowl with a relatively inexperienced group. Now, he’ll have to try to contain star wide receiver Sammy Watkins without one his better defensive backs.

Coach Dana Holgorsen said today that safety Terence Garvin would miss the bowl game due to a knee injury that required surgery. He is expected to be out six months.

Garvin is third on the team in tackles with 72 and fourth on the team in tackles for loss with 5.5. He also has a pair of interceptions this year, one returned for a touchdown.
