Evan Simon has joined the Utah State Athletics Department as its new strength and conditioning coach it was announced by senior associate athletics director/head trainer Dale Mildenberger on Wednesday. Simon will officially begin his duties at USU on Monday, Aug. 3.
Simon comes to Utah State after three years at the University of Utah where he was the Utes’ associate director of strength and conditioning. During his time at Utah, he assisted with the conditioning workouts for the football and men’s basketball teams, as well as coordinating workouts for softball, women’s basketball and women’s track and field in addition to developing rehabilitation programs for football and softball.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Utah State Athletics Department staff” Simon said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to build the USU strength and conditioning program to the highest level.”
Simon will be familiar with the USU football coaching staff, as he’ll be re-uniting with first-year Aggie football head coach Gary Andersen, who also came to USU from Utah.
“I’m excited to re-unite and work with Coach Andersen again. He’s a terrific coach and I have a lot of respect for him and his coaching philosophy. I’m honored to be an extended part of his coaching staff,” Simon said.
Prior to Utah, Simon was the head strength and conditioning coach at Davidson College from 2004-06, where he coordinated the strength programs for the Wildcats’ 21 Division I sports.
Before his stint at Davidson, Simon was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Kentucky from 2002-04, working with the football, baseball, men’s soccer, and volleyball strength and conditioning programs.
A native of Lexington Park, Md., Simon earned his health and physical education bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State (Md.) in 2002. Simon also earned a masters of science degree in exercise physiology from Kentucky in 2004.
