UAB DE being investigated for possible Jameis Winston point-shaving incident

In a weird twist, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston may be involved in yet another controversy that revolves around a player from another school.

TMZ.com reported Friday that “Jameis tanked the 1st half of the FSU vs. Louisville game to help [Chris] Rabb win a $5,000 bet.” The website also reported UAB launched an investigation into the allegation.

There appeared to be enough substance to the report for UAB president Brian Mackin to address the situation.

“We’re are aware of the allegation and looking into the matter,” Mackin said in a statement, via Al.com. “That is the only comment we will have at this time.”

Rabb, a junior, was in Winston’s class at Hueytown High School in Alabama. Whether or not they remain friends has yet to be established.

Of course, the Seminoles trailed the Louisville Cardinals 21-7 at halftime. Winston helped open this conversation by completing only 10 passes on 22 attempts with a pair of interceptions during the first two quarters. But Winston’s play can be easily explained away due to playing the nation’s sixth-ranked defense.

This is merely the latest controversy surrounding the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.

Earlier Friday, Winston’s attorney submitted a formal request to delay a hearing scheduled for Nov. 17 to determine whether or not the quarterback violated Florida State University’s code of conduct after being accused of sexual assault nearly two years ago. No date has been given to determine when the hearing will now take place.

While there are concerns about Rabb’s eligibility, the defensive end is still expected to play this weekend against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Rabb is tied for third on the team with two sacks this season.
