Ron Zook didn’t know score when going for two

Even in Illinois’ 41-20 win over Indiana, coach Ron Zook was, well, Ron Zook. Which is why we love him.

(not to mention this featured image of Zook is amazing; seriously scary stuff right there.)

After falling behind to the Hoosiers early, the Illini battled back to take a 20-13 lead midway through the second quarter, and Zook, decided he would go for two.

But why?

We were down five, right? Up five, I mean,” Zook said after the game. “It was 20-13? Up seven?

“Maybe I didn’t know what the score was. That’s happened to me before. It’s usually when we’re behind. [This will] give you something to pound us about.”

Au contraire, it’s Zook’s honesty that makes him such a fun and interesting coach to cover. Message to Zook: do not change a thing. And with the Illini sitting pretty at 6-0 -- the best such record for the Illini since 1951 if my stats don’t lie -- that extends to what his team is doing on the field.

For the record, though, the two-point conversion failed.
