According to MGoBlog, Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight suffered a broken collarbone in the Wolverines’ upset loss at Iowa on Saturday and will miss the remainder of the regular season.
Speight, per MGoBlog, could return for a bowl/playoff game. But his injury will mean he’ll miss Michigan’s home game against Indiana this weekend and, of course, that pivotal clash at Ohio State to end the regular season. If Michigan wins both of those games, it’ll have to win the Big Ten Championship without its starting quarterback, which isn’t exactly unprecedented in conference history.
Speight in 2016 completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 2,156 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Replacing Speight will likely be John O’Korn, the former Houston quarterback who threw for over 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns as a true freshman for the Cougars back in 2014. In terms of backups, O’Korn certainly seems like a good one to have.
But will he be good enough to win on the road at Ohio State? That appears to be the biggest question Michigan, per this report, will have to answer in the coming weeks.
