Earlier this offseason, it was reported that former Georgia defensive back Josh Harvey-Clemons would be transferring to Louisville. The Cardinals also reportedly had an interest in former Alabama offensive lineman Chad Lindsay before he opted for Ohio State.
Apparently, former Arkansas and current UofL head coach Bobby Petrino is not finished wooing other former SEC players who looking to transfer.
According to Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com, Shaq Wiggins (pictured) and Ja’Quay Williams are both visiting Louisville tonight as each looks to find a future football home. The former was a starting cornerback at Georgia while the latter was a talented young wide receiver at Texas A&M.
Both players announced transfers earlier this month, and both left their respective programs in good standing. UGA head coach Mark Richt stated that, after conversations with Wiggins, they both felt “a fresh start is what he believes is in his best interest” while an uncle of Williams intimated that homesickness may have played a role in his nephew’s departure.
Williams grew up in Tyrone, Ga., which is roughly 860 miles from College Station. Louisville is nearly half that distance (440 miles) from his hometown.
Both Wiggins and Williams were four-star members of their respective recruiting classes in 2013. Each will also have to sit out the 2014 season, unless they dropped down to the FCS level. Each would then have three years of eligibility at the FBS level remaining beginning in 2015.
