Report: Kliff Kingsbury has ‘creative license’ over Texas Tech’s uniforms

Since he’s often mistaken for film heart throb and well-known smooth operator Ryan Gosling, perhaps it makes sense that Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury has a clause in his contract that gives him ‘creative license’ over the look and style of the Red Raiders’ uniforms, according to a report on Thursday from the USA Today.

Written into the contract is an agreement allowing Kingsbury “creative license” in the design of the football team’s uniforms, which are supplied by the clothing and apparel company Under Armour. If Kingsbury and Texas Tech’s athletic director – currently Kirby Hocutt – agree on the uniform design, Kingsbury then has “sole discretion” on choosing when his team dons specific uniform combinations.

And the contract’s provisions don’t stop with just creative control for the first-year coach. If, for some reason, his fashion choices go over budget, he has the right to act as his own fundraiser to make up the difference.

“Me having played here and been an alumni here, there’s obviously a lot of connections,” Kingsbury said. “And so I felt like if it wasn’t budgeted, or we went over budget with some of these looks – (if) some of these things got a little pricey – then I want to be able to go to outside sources that we’re connected with and be able to handle that.”

With his impeccably coiffed facial stubble and sophisticated fashion sense, Kingsbury clearly has an eye for threads. You can pretty much be assured that, win or lose, his Red Raiders are going to be looking sharp.
