After weeks of speculation, rumor and innuendo, the cloud of uncertainty that’s hovered over Bo Pelini‘s Nebraska coaching staff has been lifted and some clarity has been added to the situation.
Pelini confirmed to the Associated Press Wednesday that, among other moves, running backs coach Tim Beck has been promoted to offensive coordinator and will coach quarterbacks as well. Beck will replace Shawn Watson, who the head coach refused to say resigned or was fired.
We’ve been told by multiple sources over the past two weeks that Watson, along with wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore, have been out as members of Pelini’s staff since mid-January. Reportedly, Pelini’s been actively working on Watson’s behalf to secure an NFL job for his former assistant.
In other coaching moves, Pelini confirmed the hiring of Massachusetts high school coach/golf academy manager Rich Fisher as his new wide receivers coach. Additionally, Ross Brown was named as Beck’s replacement as RB coach. Last season, Brown coached the Cornhuskers’ tight ends.
On the defensive side of the ball, Pelini confirmed that former Indiana assistant Corey Raymond has been hired to coach the secondary, while former Ohio assistant Ross Els has been tabbed to coach linebackers.
