Mountain West unveils new logo

The Pac-12’s done it. So has the Big Ten. Now, with the conference set to add a handful of schools over the next couple of years while at the same time losing a pair this year and next, the Mountain West has followed suit.

At the MWC’s annual Board of Directors meeting in California Monday, the conference unveiled a new logo in the midst of what’s being described as a “comprehensive branding effort”.

“This initiative is emblematic of the evolution of our league,” commissioner Craig Thompson stated. “The overwhelming majority of the people we spoke to said the Mountain West is bold, feisty and highly competitive, and we strongly believe these qualities are reflected in our new brand identity and our new logo.”

And, speaking of the logo, here it is:

Eh, not too bad actually, and certainly much more pleasing to the eye than the effort put forth by the Big Ten.

“Our fans were right in noting that our evolving membership and geography reflect both ‘Mountain’ and ‘West’ equally,” Thompson said. “The logo is bold, strong and balanced just like our league. We like the fact that it’s instantly recognizable to fans on either side of the playing field.”
