Gophers officially lose coordinator

It’s been rumored ever since Pete Carroll left Southern Cal for the Seattle Seahawks that Minnesota assistant Jedd Fisch would be joining him in the NFL.

That rumor has finally and officially come to fruition. As does the realization for head coach Tim Brewster that he’ll be undertaking a search for a new offensive coordinator for the third time in three seasons.

A press release from the school officially acknowledged Fisch’s expected departure after just one season with the Gophers.

“Great people are always going to be in demand,” Brewster said in a statement. “It’s part of the profession in which we work. This is a great opportunity for Jedd and I want to thank him for all of his efforts on behalf of our program. I wish him the best.”

The release also stated that Brewster “is already in the process of conducting a nationwide search and indicated that he will move quickly to fill the Gophers’ offensive coordinator position.”

A couple of the bigger names being thrown around by the rumor mill as possibilities are Steve Kragthorpe -- the former Louisville head coach who was “dismissed” in late November -- and Mike Canales -- South Florida’s offensive coordinator last season who wasn’t retained by new head coach Skip Holtz.
