Every football team has a new motto for every season, and they’re all just about the same. But, still, some are more similar than others.
Take, for instance, Georgia.
New head coach Kirby Smart and his staff have instilled a slogan for their first season on campus. Let’s let cornerback Aaron Davis explain it.
“We have this new motto: Attack the day,” Davis told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “So just take each day for what it has and try to have your best practice every day.”
Oregon, of course, has used “Win the Day” as its motto since Chip Kelly was running things in Eugene. That phrase is so ingrained in the Ducks’ culture that it’s now the team’s Twitter handle.

Ole Miss also co-opted the phrase as its own shortly thereafter.
Georgia’s phrase is also similar to the one Boise State has used since Bryan Harsin‘s arrival.

“Attack the day” makes sense, though, when viewed threw the Nick Saban-shaped lens by which Smart does everything he does. Georgia “attacks” the day instead of “wins,” because winning takes focus away from the all-important Process. And Georgia settles on the day instead of the future, because the day is the only thing that can be immediately controlled.
“Every team in college football wants to win a championship. But winning a championship has never been stressed,” Davis said. “That’s nothing he’s ever expressed to us.”
