It appears the demise of one of Lorenzo Nuñez‘s knees has been somewhat exaggerated.
Over the weekend, the South Carolina quarterback sustained a knee injury that initial reports suggested could sideline him for the remainder of spring practice. In confirming that Nuñez did indeed suffer a hyperextended knee, first-year head coach Will Muschamp downplayed the seriousness of the issue.
“It’s nothing serious regardless of what the reports (indicated about Nuñez),” said Muschamp in quotes distributed by the school following Tuesday’s practice. “He’ll be fine. We hope to get him back in a week or so.
“It’s unfortunate for him, but he did some good things Saturday while he was in there.”
Nuñez is one of a handful of quarterbacks ostensibly vying for the starting job, and, as soon as he heals, the 2015 backup will rejoin a signal-calling fray that includes, for now, Connor Mitch, Perry Orth, Brandon McIlwain and Michael Scarnecchia.
