The last major preseason poll before the start of the college football season was released Sunday afternoon. Florida State, as expected, received the number one spot in the AP top 25, receiving 57 out of 60 first-place votes. Alabama followed Florida State in the voting, edging Oregon.
Oklahoma comes in at number four, followed by Ohio State and last season’s SEC champion, Auburn. UCLA is ranked seventh, followed by Michigan State, South Carolina and Baylor to round out the top ten.
Defending Pac-12 champion Stanford comes in at number 11, followed by Georgia, LSU, Wisconsin, USC and Clemson. Notre Dame is ranked 17th, although it should be noted the votes for the AP poll were due before the news of an academic misconduct investigation and suspensions to players broke last week.
Ole Miss is ranked 18th, followed by Arizona State and Kansas State to wrap up the top 20. Texas A&M, Nebraska, North Carolina, Missouri and Washington complete the top 25 poll in that order.
Eight teams from the SEC appear in the preseason AP poll. The Pac-12 is second with six teams ranked. The Big Ten has four schools ranked, the Big 12 has three schools ranked. The ACC also has three schools ranked in the preseason poll. No school from a Group fo Five conference appears in the preseason AP top 25.
Florida State also ran away with the top spot in the coaches preseason poll.
