Ducks going pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oregon has always been (well) ahead of the curve when it comes to uniforms. Now, the Ducks are joining in the month-long effort to raise awareness to an insidious disease.

On their official Twitter feed Thursday, Oregon unveiled the uniforms they will wear for Saturday’s game against Washington State. The Ducks will be in their semi-standard black tops and pants... and pink helmets, gloves, socks and cleats to go along with it.

The pink tip of the cap is in recognition of October being designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness month. And, to its credit, the football program is not just giving lip service to the cause.

A total of 25 of the pink helmets will be auctioned off following the game, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. You can either bid on the helmets or donate to the fund established in the name of the former North Carolina State women’s basketball coach, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2009, by clicking HERE.
